Its a reading I am doing for someone else. It is a new relationship and he is somewhat of a player. She is not and is very inexperienced. Maybe that is why he likes her, not sure. Not sure if he is serious about her or wants to take advantage. he is a few years older and seems afraid of commitment.

I see him as very airy such as king of swords. Do you think king of cups indicates more genuine feelings?

I don't really like the look of these cards. Look specifically at how he feels and thinks. I think he doesn't want t commit and that is what he tells her (8 swords) (probably in a way of, 'well there is so much going on in my life, I just need to sort that first and blabla', but in reality I think he just wants to end it (justice). Also look at his feelings for her: 10 swords. Not really speaking of good & loving feelings shall we say...
Just my first impression.

Edit: I also feel your thoughts about this are quite correct: he is most likely having fun for the time being (3 of cups). Especially looking at the justice and the hierophant in the outcome position.
Again, I can be off of course. Just how I see it. Also might be confusing if he acts out as the king of cups (in this moment though). But the good qualities of this king are not supported by the other cards.
