Hi I'm thinking about getting a Lenormand set. Is it difficult to learn? How long would it take to make rather accurate predictions? And how different do you find the insights from the tarot? Thanks IP: Logged |

Well, I am having a b1tch of a time, lol, but I like them. Empress has been helping me from time to time... but the way you read the cards is SOOOO different from tarot. Lenormand works in pairs/card couplets. So for instance, in a 3 card reading, let's say you get:Tower + Rider + Letter You have to look at Tower + Rider as one meaning, Rider + Letter as another, and Tower + Letter. Now this is an EXTREMELY pedantic, baby example. Sometimes the cards get really confusing. Idk. I've only had my deck a month, but I would say it's really cool, and I like them. If anything, they are making me a MUCH better tarot reader It's just gonna take practice, practice, practice. IP: Logged |

if you're good with language as a system, it's easy you have units of meaning you make into adjectives/subjects/verbs depending on the configuration (i think this is how Kanji work but I don't hail from there and don't speak any of those languages, nonetheless you get the picture) it's much easier than tarot in terms of interp. my belief is that intuition is a massive b*tch, so that leaves empathy/psychic gift or a very thorough knowledge of symbolism, which in Tarot means poring over "the key to great mysteries", "the book T" and other delightful reads, whereas Lenormand symbolism is just that, radices of words, nothing beyond. but at the same time it's more opaque than Tarot, no channels open to read energies, because it's so schematic. just my experience IP: Logged |

i agree TOTALLY. especially when you mentioned the kanji system (i studied japanese for 3 years.) it really is just a word game, and i think that's why i have trouble with it, because i am so much more into intuitive reading. that's all i've ever done, lol. so when i get something that is like: hey, this is it. don't read too much into it... i feel like i'm trying to do a sudoku puzzle while ac/dc is blaring in my ears, and I'm on the train. Oh wow! Thanks for all your feedback! Language should do the trick. I was thinking of getting them to be more precise with what's coming up in the future. So perhaps a Tarot & Lenormand combo. Never even saw them until a few months ago, lol. Tower - Rider (Doors song (riders on the storm) playing when you get a rather disturbing message which you'll have to respond quickly 2 The Rider might be a hottie & you'll communicate through mail after you sorted the incident Lol. Actually this might be fun Not ordering one as of yet, but I think I should try them at the very least. Thanks!! IP: Logged |

^^There's ZE rub though Lenormand Tower is not a stormy one It's closer to 2 wands (worldly success slash loneliness) Yeah, that's one other thing. Moons are different, and stars, in a way. @becca: what deck do you have btw? blue owl, piatnik or laura tuan's french cartomancy (i know it doesn't really matter)? i have a really lame blue owl with silly rhymes instead of cartomancy symbols (seeing i don't know them anyway it's not a major problem) And yes Soul Kitchen = the devil + 6 cups (Moon + Coffin) Moonlight Drive = 9 pents + ace of cups (Ship + Bouquet) ...
I'm digging this IP: Logged |

EXACTLY!! The Tower is different. There are so many similar cards with different meanings. The word play should be easy (for Christ's sake I have in MFA in writing), but it does feel like learning a new language. I have the Piatnik. I like it. I think slowly I'm starting to build up a relationship with the cards. Starting to ascribe my own spin on their meanings, but I swear to God, sometimes I want to drop kick them into space. Like... if I get the lilies next to the garden one more time, or God forbid by the Tower... What? I'm gonna be in a sexy orgy organized by a corporation? Oh okay. Sure. Except lilies can also mean protection and family... oi vye. Why do they have little poems on yours?! What's the worst one??? Lol I wanna know IP: Logged |

Lol, oh okay. So it does get confusing. New try: you'll be invited to an upscale social event by a flighty gentleman who works in communication. Don't forget to RSVP! This may also get you a job in err...the post room! Lol, I'm crap.

^ because apparently the blue owl exists in two versions. i have been meaning to procure a piatnik deck, but seeing my current one serves the purpose alright I keep postponing http://usgs.typepad.com/.a/6a013485938a51970c0147e3cfe8f5970b-800wi they are really distracting, really one-sided, apparently written for the sake of rhyming. i tend to methodically overlook them. perhaps the german ones make more sense, but still, it's very limiting. still the biedermeier illustrations are really cosy and pretty, and the tone is warmer that the piatnik's, i tend to go for yellow over blue. I will say they are accurate as hell. I asked a week or so ago what the next month would hold for me, and it basically said I would receive unexpected money from an institution. Considering that I owe my soul to Student Loans, and I am beyond broke... I was like, "yeah, okay. Whatever." This came on the heels of me asking for a credit increase with my credit union, to which they summarily said, "NO."Fast forward two weeks. I log into my online banking, and guess who got a $7000 increase on her credit line? Not sure it's a fluke, and I don't really want to call and ask... but dude. Weird. Weird, weird, weird. Don't forget to check their interest rates Lenormand seems to pick up on smaller things which I can't read in the tarot. I might try how a spread of a week turns out though... Just asking what events? Hmmm...
