Hi everyone

The generosity on this site amazes me, it's so lovely

And I also saw about someone not receiving the exchanged reading they have done, which is a sad shame.

Which made me question my own asking. I was offered a reading and feel very very grateful, but I don't know if I can reciprocate in the future. I do VERY basic tarot with answers from a book plus my own intuition, and maybe contribute a little to someones chart but thats it.

Any ideas of what I could do in the future to help out and exchange?

xx

Yeah Ainslie it's not often a big deal I offer to read for those with whom I feel a connection or for whom I can meet a need, that's about it. Unless it's "agreed upon", quid pro quo doesn't matter to me.

Do you have a lot of books?

Stichomancy is one of the oldest forms of divination (at least 3000 years old in fact), in which the querant opens to a random page of randomly selected book in a library, to find an excerpt that applies to the situation at hand. The most common forms of stichomancy are I Ching readings (in which one consults the ancient Chinese Book of Changes) and Bibliomancy (in which one consults a Holy Book such as the King James Bible or the Koran).

Try to pick a book from a genre based on the question or a book that has many subjects so it can make sense. It may resonate for you yourself if you've read the book and you can add to what you may think the person was supposed to hear.

Cool guys, good to know. There may be times I ask, but couldn't reciprocate so it makes me not want to ask.

@Loaded- that is such a thing?? I do that sometimes anyway. Very interesting

I would always have a go, I just would hate to give someone the wrong answer...

That's so sweet and honest.

But if you don't feel ready to offer readings to people, it doesn't mean you can't request one on here. This is a forum that is meant for free readings. You just have to be honest to the people who has offered to read for you

Can I ask what a composite chart is? I just had a look at did one up for someone I have met and get along very well with but I don't know what it means to begin to interpret?

How is it different to synastry?

Hi Ainslie,

I started on this site not knowing a THING about astrology and really wanted to learn. I wasn't even aware of my sun sign, believe it or not, but I have always found it to be a fascinating subject. I am contemplating taking courses in Parapsychology at university this summer part time.

You say you have a knowledge of reading the cards? That's all it takes. That's how I started, not knowing if I was helping or not. It turns out the more readings I did the better I got and didn't have to rely so much on descriptions from other sources. Just jump right in there have fun and don't take it too seriously. Poochy

Composite is MidPoints. You take the centre of the two Suns, Moons, etc. and make a chart out of the readings.

Synastry is comparing someones birth Planets to your own.

Synastry is actual, composite is theoretical.

Hi Ellyn,

Not a school per se, but courses offered in a realm of higher learning. Yes there are universities here that offer this. There is also a college in Washington state U.S.A that offers this. Poochy

That sounds REALLY cool.

I read about that sort of thing with Marion Zimmer Bradley and always hoped it could be real.

I think that even if you can't do readings, you can always show compassion and support as a way to "payback" for the ones you receive. Every now and then, we have these posts where people are saying they're going through a rough patch and needing more compassion and support than a reading, so that could be a way you can give back to the community.

On people not giving back a reading in exchange, I've experienced this recently and I've seen it happen here. Personally, I keep note of those who do this, as I find it dismissive and rude towards the other person, and never enter their threads again or will exchange again. When entering in an exchange thread, you *know* you're agreeing to give a reading back - why should it be so difficult to keep your end of the bargain when the other has done it so for your benefit? I don't understand it and I don't like it. I also have a big problem with people not acknowledging someone's reading. Also something I've experienced, especially with my horary readings. After taking time out to go through significators, dignity and reception, I would like at least a 'thanks for your time'. I know it would be easier if I just had a forgetful memory, but I don't. On the other hand, I've experienced wonderful feedback from people here, which is what keeps me still reading horary here.

@Ainslie, I think you should try giving readings or entering exchanges, even if you feel your knowledge is limited. If you let people know you are still learning and they should take everything with a grain of salt, you'll be able to learn more quickly from this experience. I know I did.

Muggles are all good! I came on this site to basically try my tarot reading online and where I can demand (yes, demand) feedback. Reading keeps me sane- when I don't read I've noticed a bit of anxiety ect forming on my end. Essentially I offer readings when I can and when I feel the need to.

I've never tried doing this online without knowing the person behind the screen. Sure, I've done skype readings but I've always known the context to the situation. This site allows me to be a bit more confident with what I see.

You can reciprocate by just being lovely- I had a couple of people cheer me up when I was feeling so low and couldn't vent to anyone in my real life- and I did appreciate that
