Introduction
Grant Lewi (1902 - 1951) is a legendary figure among twentieth century astrologers. He was a
writer and editor for the two largest astrological magazines of the time. His two books, Heaven
Knows What and Astrology for the Millions , were the first astrological books to become best
sellers and even today, over fifty years later, they remain among the best introductions to the
subject of astrology.
The astrological interpretations found in Heaven Knows What and Astrology for the Millions
were unique, fresh, and simple. Llewellyn George, the prominent astrologer of the time, remarked
that Lewi's interpretations must be intuitive because they were unlike any that had been written
before him. Today these interpretations remain energetic and forceful and, though some references
are now dated, Lewi's text still provides some of the clearest insights found anywhere in the
literature of astrology.
Lewi was determined to make astrology more accessible to the average person, but while
popularizing the subject he never watered it down or reduced it to the level found in "sun sign"
astrology. Writing before computers were available, he made his books function as the computer,
providing the reader with tables to generate their own charts or horoscopes and then linking his
interpretations to the information found there. Lewi would have made good use of the computer, so
much in his books seem to anticipate them. In his writing he tried to emulate the interpretation
process by using a computerless version of artificial intelligence: the meaning of a planet in a sign
doesn't stand alone but is modified by the other aspects found in your chart. Many of his comments
depend on a combination of factors and for this reason you will sometimes find that he has
something different to say about an aspect in your chart than he does for the same aspect in your
friend's chart.
This report calculates your chart for you and then collects all of Lewi's comments strictly
according to the astrological factors found there. The text contained here is valid even for those
who don't know their time of birth - Lewi focused on those factors that are in effect throughout the
birthday. The only exception to this is the case of the Moon which can move between 12 and 14
degrees in a day, so if the positions were calculated for noon then the Moon could be as much as 6
or 7 degrees different and possibly even change signs. If you don't know your time and the texts
that involve the Moon seem unlikely, you may wish to compare reports done for the beginning and
the end of the day.
At all times, Lewi’s aim has been to show how astrology can be used as an aid in living a more
satisfying and fulfilling life. Astrology offers indications and pointers - and sometimes insights - to
situations that you find in life. It doesn’t tell you what to do about them, but if it offers you a better
understanding of the situation, then you are in a better position to decide for yourself what to do. To
quote Grant Lewi:
"It is not limitations that eats out the heart, but inaction, the knowledge of powers not used, the
sense of having failed to develop to the utmost. The overcoming of fate is not the overcoming of

limitations: that is impossible. It is the exercise of free will, the assertion of the full self, expanding
to its utmost with the tools at hand, in the circumstances that are set. Astrology, through the
interpretation of the horoscope, assists men to the achievement of their maximum by indicating to
them the lines along which their will may be most progressively applied, the goals to be sought,
and the individual means by which each one may arrive at the outermost boundaries of his world."
Horoscope of Birth
Your horoscope of birth is the blueprint of your personality and character as indicated by the
position of the Sun, the Moon and the eight planets on the date of your birth. This section is
devoted to each of these members of the solar system.
The planets are the antennae and arms of the horoscope, of which the body and soul are the Sun
and Moon. No planet will ever cause you to act counter to the testimony of the Sun and Moon in
their combined influence on you. Remember this when you proceed with the following readings.
All planetary vibration must be considered in light of the basic solar-lunar readings, for these are
your character, your basic nature, which the planets will help or hinder but cannot materially
change.
According to the sign position of your Sun, one planet will be more important than the others
and should probably be read first. Your Sun is in Sagittarius and your dominant planet is Jupiter.
Not only the action of this ruling planet will be very important in your life, but also the attribute
over which it rules. Thus Gemini, ruled by Mercury, lives a great deal in the senses; Libra, ruled by
Venus, responds most readily to emotional stimuli; and so on. Study your ruler carefully.
Remember in all planetary readings that they work within the pattern of your solar-lunar nature;
never against it. The synthesis of your horoscope from the following series of paragraphs to a
working unit depends on your keeping this in mind, which will enable you to weld all the readings
into a unified and significant whole.
Sun in Sagittarius and Moon in Leo

Honor is your god; all your energies, your ambitions, your strong love-nature are based and
rooted in your concept of honor. Through energy, definite aims, and integrity, you are likely to go
far and win wide admiration, respect, and dignity. You take life seriously, with a keen sense of the
importance of making the most of it. You love justice and can temper it with mercy and through
deliberate direction of your abilities get both speed and distance into your career. You are
courageous both physically and morally; you are your own master and the master of your fate, and
you fear no obstacle or opposition when you know your cause is right. You will defend high and
low alike with justice on your side and no one could be powerful enough to offer you a bribe.
You are intellectually philosophic, broad-minded, imaginative, and creative, so that any scheme
you envisage, or any goal at which you imagine yourself, becomes very nearly an accomplished

fact when you have the picture clearly in mind. Then all your energies work together to make a
tangible reality out of what is already a reality to you in imagination. This creative, photographic
imagination is your great asset, for you have the courage to imagine high and the moral,
intellectual, and physical force to bring it to pass. In love you are ardent, loyal, idealistic, and
constant; your ideal of love is second only to your ideal of honor. Anyone to whom you give your
word has an unbreakable bond. All these qualities, naturally, make for success in life which few
people could be petty enough to grudge you, since it rests on the solid foundations of work and
personal integrity.
You may have a brilliant career. You have exceptional power. You are a person to make
yourself felt in any circle, and a healthy respect for yourself sets your goal high and tends to
broaden your influence and your success.
Sun
The Sun indicates the appearance you will present before the world and the psychological bias
which will dominate your actions. What you seem, and why, are told in the reading for your Sun. In
many ways the Sun is the dominant force in your horoscope and in your life. Other influences,
especially that of the Moon, may modify the Sun's influence, but nothing will cause you to depart
very far from the basic solar pattern. For this reason a whole literature and a whole business have
grown up around Sun-sign astrology; and many people exist who think there is nothing more to the
horoscope than knowing what "sign you were born in" and what the Sun in that sign means. This is
a mistake, as you will discover when you have read the influence of the other bodies. But
throughout your reading, keep in mind always the basic influence of the Sun, and remember that all
other influences must be interpreted in terms of it, especially in so far as other influences play a
visible role in your life. You may think, dream, imagine, hope to be a thousand things, according to
your Moon and your other planets, but the Sun is what you are, and to be your best self in terms of
your Sun is to cause your energies to work along the path in which they will have maximum help
from planetary vibrations.

The expansion of the ego to the uttermost bounds of human thought, experience and knowledge
motivates the Sagittarian, who rushes out eagerly to greet life, equipped with a radiant nature,
abundant vitality and a keen, alert mind eager for the fellowship of earth and willing to extend his
knowledge to last limits of heaven. The approach to life is straightforward, for the aim is not subtle:
it is to experience, to know, to try, to adventure. As a result, the Sagittarian goes far, literally and
figuratively. He travels, either geographically or in thought, or both; and however he travels he
likes to go fast. If he finishes things at all, it is because he is quick, not patient; life is too short for
him to bother with details, and he feels that he will learn more, see more, know more if he goes
more. He can thus be superficial, but is rarely shallow, for his sincerity goes right down into his
marrow, and a platitude on his lips can become a great truth because of the wholeheartedness with
which he believes it.
The creative urge is strong; thus does the ego expand and perpetuate itself in its expanded state.
Idealism is powerfully marked, as are religious and philosophic tendencies. Sagittarians take
naturally to serious thought and, even if uneducated in the formal sense, are at home with abstract
ideas, principles, beliefs. They have little use for dogma, and are not conventional in thought,
though they are so straightforward that their actions are generally unimpeachable. A low-type
Sagittarian is a rara avis. The worst the sign usually gets is mediocre and bromidic. Abundant
energy and natural good spirits preserve them from the worst that life throws up. The better types,
eagerly questing in the geographical and spiritual world, lead the abundant life up to the hilt. They
leave the world better than they found it by the happiness they bring to others, if not indeed by
some special contribution to philosophy, religion or science, in which they are especially likely to
shine.
Following are the aspects to your Sun. In a general way, the trines and sextiles to your Sun
make ease, contentment, happiness, luck; while squares and oppositions give you energy, drive,
success, ambition. Conjunctions bring both energy and luck, and are translatable in terms of
whether the Sun receives squares or trines, along with the conjunction. Similarly, squares and trines
to the Sun together bring success through work and perseverance, and luck develops in proportion

You have a sound mentality. Along whatever lines you work you are fundamentally sane. Men

it comes to matters of endurance. Since a good deal of the success of this world in material matters
depends on physical vitality, you have an edge on competitors. You are an excellent leader not so
much of thought as of action (unless Mercury is powerful) and frequently choose the army or navy
as your field of activity, where you speedily rise to authority; or business, where you won't long
stay in a subordinate position. You overwhelm people, and they naturally give way to you.
Sun Trine Saturn Orb: 00°59'
You are lucky, coming of good stock and being born into a favorable environment. Elders have
done a good deal for you, and no matter how poor your parents may have been or how rich, they
have seen to it that responsibility was removed from you as much as possible and that the hardships
of life did not touch you. You have a good sound body and mind. You are serious without being
dejected or depressed, and are capable of concentrated effort. Look out, there is a tendency to
relaxation and absence of direction and purpose - luck helps you out, but you don't seize or create
opportunities. The tendency of this aspect is to smugness and self-satisfaction, pride and relaxation
of ambition and energies, so that, despite a sound mind in a sound body, you don't seem to get very
far.
Sun Square Pluto Orb: 07°11'
Power is important to you but, without introspection, this power is likely to be a "bluff," a show
you put on to impress others. With introspection, you can use your clear perspective on your
motivations to give a solid sense of purpose and determination to everything you do. Hidden
resentments can trip up even your most well-intentioned actions, so self-knowledge is essential for
success. Winning is important to you, so you could become a master of tricks and manipulation.
The lesson is the proper application of power, so that success comes through the use of your
magnetism and inner strength rather than through the use of dirty tricks. Try to be for things as
intensely as you are against them.
Moon
While the Sun's position by sign determines what motives and urges dominate your life as it
meets the naked eye, the sign position of the Moon tells the desire of your heart which may or may
not be expressed or realized in your life. When you "know what you mean but you can't say it," it is
your Moon that knows it and your Sun that can't say it. "Thoughts that do often lie too deep for
tears" are the thoughts of your Moon's nature. The wordless ecstasy, the mute sorrow, the secret
dream, the esoteric picture of yourself that you can't get across to the world, or which the world
doesn't comprehend or value - these are the products of the Moon in your horoscope. When you are
misunderstood, it is your Moon nature, expressed imperfectly through the Sun sign, that you feel is
betrayed. When you know what you ought to do, but can't find the right way to do it, it is your
Moon that knows and your Sun that refuses to react in harmony. Also, when you "don't know why I
said that," it was your Moon expressing despite your Sun (if you are innerly satisfied with the

involuntary speech), or the Sun expressing against the will of the Moon (if you are displeased with
what has slipped out). Things you know without thought - intuitions, hunches, instincts - are the
products of the Moon. Modes of expression that you feel are truly your deepest self belong to the
Moon: art, letters, creative work of any kind; sometimes love; sometimes business. Whatever you
feel is most deeply yourself, whether or not you are able to do anything about it in the outer world,
is the product of your Moon and of the sign your Moon occupies at birth.
Moon in Leo
The portrait you paint of yourself is heroic and towers above the world you inhabit. To live up
to the level of your inner picture is a lifetime job requiring energy, courage and considerable sense
of the drama of existence. Private satisfactions are not very important to you; you are less
introspective than most. You want to see the tangible evidence of success, and like it best if the rest
of the world can see it, too. You are a bit of a show off, but since you are utterly honest with
yourself, you can laugh at your own vanities, even when they remain important. You want valuable
possessions, well-groomed children, good clothes, accomplishments and evidences of
accomplishment that others can applaud. Your desires are basically simple, and your methods of
getting them direct; you know what you want and are willing to make sacrifices for them. You
won't sacrifice personal integrity, however, or honor, which are the intangibles that do matter to
you. Education, culture, art, music, however, matter less. You can take 'em or leave 'em alone; and
ten to one, if you do take 'em, it isn't because they really feed your soul, but because you think
evidence of such a soul will in some way add to your prestige. Throughout your life you will strive
to fulfill an image of yourself which is less a portrait than a statue dominating the landscape of your
life by its size, its beauty, the dramatic quality of its setting and the colorful beauty of its trappings.
And in becoming this statue you are likely to become a lot of other more spiritual things which you
don't even desire and which are added to you because of the honest workmanship that goes into
your self sculpture.
Your personality is charming, magnetic; you are clear-thinking, but you lack inner
concentration drive and force.
Moon Trine Sun Orb: 06°47'
This adds an element of luck to the life and will tend to strengthen any good, or minimize any
evil, that may be indicated by the rest of the chart. It inclines to a strong, sound body and an ability
to take the ups and downs of the world in your stride. While it will not negate in any large degree
the difficulties of the powerful aspects, it will cushion the blow, give you internal resilience and
external poise, as well as an elastic power to bounce back to normal from any personal or economic
difficulty.
Moon Trine Mercury Orb: 08°18'
This is a good aspect for sound common sense, strengthening the sanity of the mind and giving
you the power to absorb knowledge readily and quickly. You are inquisitive, eager, intelligent, an
apt student, and a good conversationalist, witty and apt in expression, logical and reasonable. You
have some adaptability for business, especially salesmanship. You can succeed in one of the

"vocal" occupations, such as speaking or radio announcing. You have manual aptitude and can do
things with your hands, although you'd rather use your mind. Through cleverness you can generally
succeed in life without too much hard work for you're a good talker and can sell yourself as well as
your product, which eases the road for you.
Moon Sextile Mars Orb: 07°17'
You have a vigorous mind - sharp, quick, satiric - and a clipped manner of speech. You have an
aggressive spirit which may or may not be manifest in your actions, but which causes your plans to
soar and your ideas to expand. You have good control over your passions, which are strong; and
use your anger to good purpose. You are a dangerous enemy because your fires are leashed and
directed to go to the mark. In a man's horoscope this gives an aggressive wife, possibly a shrew,
who none the less is good for him, stimulating him to action at the same time that she makes him
mad.

You are idealistic, humanitarian, and expansive in your outlook, animated by genuine charity,
and probably in a position to make it practical. You are cheerful, optimistic, good-humored, and

Moon Sextile Uranus Orb: 07°27'
There are dash and vitality here, preceding from an alert, quick mind, eager for knowledge,
absorptive, and magnetic. You are able to see all sides of any question, from the other fellow's
viewpoint as well as from your own; this makes you tolerant and intelligent, a good listener, a fair
opponent in a detached intellectual encounter. You are capable of a good deal of mental objectivity;
large ideas appeal to you, and you can think abstractly. Artistic and intellectual matters interest you,
as well as social and political ideas and theories; but on these matters there is so much tolerance
that you have difficulty making a firm stand for your opinions, and unless some other aspect shows
decisiveness, this may be a debating-society position, under which things are talked out and mulled
over and few decisions arrived at. Learn to see all sides, and then choose one and stick to it, and
remember that too much tolerance and understanding of the other fellow's opinions amounts to
having none of your own. You have advanced ideas, in theory, and may talk like a radical straight
from Moscow; but you are little likely to put these into practice in your own life. This is one of the
positions of the Parlor Pink, who talks a good revolution but doesn't get around to doing very much
about it.
Mercury
Mercury is the sense-impression antennae of your horoscope. His position by sign indicates
your reactions to sights, sounds, odors, tastes and touch impressions, affording a key to the attitude
you have toward the physical world around you. Mercury is the messenger through which your
physical body and brain (the Sun) and your inner nature (the Moon) are kept in contact with the
outer world, which will appear to you according to the index of Mercury's position by sign in the
horoscope.
Mercury in Sagittarius
You tend to overlook what is right before your eyes, to neglect what is shouting right in your
ear, because your attention is on bigger, or anyway farther-off, things. You don't see details.
Sometimes you don't hear little squibs of conversation and thus miss the whole point. Your senses
were wool gathering or else fixed your attention on something else. They are keen enough, but tend
to scatter; they do not need to be sharpened so much as they need to be directed. Your feet may
stumble because your eyes missed the rock in the path; you get bumped by a trolley car because
you didn't hear the bell. No doubt you were listening to or looking at something more important. To
fix your attention, to gain dominion over the direction in which your senses are pointed, is to
achieve success, for your senses are sharp enough and require only more care in the use of them.
Mercury Sextile Mars Orb: 01°01'
You have a facile quick mind, capable of grasping scientific facts and interested in them. But
there's a good deal of a tendency to wasting your mental energies through lack of purpose,
direction, and concentrative faculties. If other things show concentration, then this adds to the
facility; if not, you'll have to fight against a tendency to skim the surface. A temptation to live by

your wits is always present. If you hold yourself to a purpose your road to success is eased by
quickness, perception, and ready grasp of details.
Mercury Trine Saturn Orb: 00°31'
This adds to the intuitive faculties which in turn add to the reasoning power. You have a nicely
balanced mind, capable of great concentrative action, probably on the critical or executive side
unless other creative forces are shown in the horoscope. You are likely to have a wide variety of
interests for you are accurate and profound, a student and philosopher, interested in ideas as well as
in the practical workaday routine, for which you have a great capacity. You have good insight and a
good business head, not easily deceived. You're utterly honest and trustworthy, a stickler for duty
and the sanctity of obligations. This aspect will do a good deal to balance an entire horoscope by
giving you the power to control things through logical analysis.
Mercury Square Pluto Orb: 05°40'
You tend to be dogmatic, stubbornly resisting change and other people's ideas. In your early
years, you may have rebelled against the discipline of learning; now, you may consider yourself
slow or stupid, when your only problems are a lack of openness to new ideas and a lack of
concentration. Once you apply your mind to the subjects that are important to you, you can become
a self-made person. You should think before you speak, since you can put people off with an
unintentional brusqueness. Intentional sharpness or sarcasm when angry can lose you the support
you've worked hard to gain. Be as sensitive to other people's feelings as you are to your own. One
of the major lessons you must learn is how to accept constructive criticism.
Venus
Venus is the emotional antenna of your horoscope. Through Venus, impressions come to you
from the outer world because of which you feel and react emotionally. The position of Venus by
sign at the time of your birth gives the key to your attitude toward these emotional experiences. As
Mercury is the messenger linking sense impressions (sight, smell, etc.) to the basic nature of your
Sun and Moon, so Venus is the messenger linking emotional impressions.
Venus in Capricorn
You are wise beyond your years where emotions are concerned, accept naturally the dictates of
society, and will rarely be found in a compromising position. Emotional response will genuinely be
along the lines of the conventions, sometimes even of the main chance; you won't marry beneath
you, and understand. You could love more easily where money is involved. Since your emotions
are geared to your defense and ambition responses, you will rarely find yourself struggling between
love and duty, desire and ambition; they automatically work together. Your emotions are not so
