Life changing decisions here people!

I'm considering changing my major again. By again, this is like the 4th or 5th time I will be changing it. I'm not doing so well as a biology major and my goal is to be a Naturopathic Doctor. I like nature, animals, and people in general so something involving the preservation of these is what I'm looking for. I'm considering a major in anthropology and a minor in bio because I love learning the sciences, I'm just not so great at being a student.

Any advice on whether to stick with just the Bio major or change it up to be able to graduate faster. Either way I'll likely want to get into a Master program so GPA counts.

I'm sorry that I won't be able to give you a reading but.. I can share with you some wisdom lol..

You can major in whatever you want and still go on to graduate school, medical school, etc. In fact, they like to see diversity.. Figure out which undergraduate classes you absolutely need to get into whichever post-graduate school you want to go to or for whichever field you want to go into.. And make sure you take those classes. Hell, you could major in theatre, and you can still get the job done.

So, really, I would say major in anything that makes you want to show up everyday. Makes you want to do the work because you actually want to learn what you're learning. Once you choose that, it'll all fly by.

Mines a 2.2 I think... To graduate I need a 3.0 and a 3.0 to get looked at for Grad school. I don't have many extra curriculars like research. I work and try to train martial arts. I don't know if that's enough.

I would recommend speaking to your advisor - there are "GPA booster" classes that can also serve as pre-requisites for your major, minor, or just school's list of GenEds. These classes are usually really easy and do exactly what they're intended to - boost your GPA.

Depending where you go to graduate school, the extracurriculars may not be an issue if you have a valid excuse (i.e; you have to work to support yourself/family and don't have time, have health issues, etc). If you don't have a valid excuse, see if you can maybe do an internship at a hospital or see what internships your school offers. Schools are very helpful, I never understand why people don't reach out and ask for help or guidance. Lol. You aren't expected to know it all on your own.

Training martial arts will be impressive. It's diverse and "for the people". Grad schools will eat that up. Won't hurt to have more, though.

I've finished most of my GenEds, so that's not going to be much help. I think I only have 2 more classes in that area to take.

I also don't have any real valid excuse, no kids, live at home with parents...but if I didn't work I would go hungry because they can't afford to support me. My dad is retired and my mom is almost retired with not much of a retirement fund in either case. Internships also require a 2.5 GPA so for right now, that doesn't seem like a good idea. But I good future note.

My school can be helpful, but it's extremely frustrating, you end up going in circles because a lot of them don't know what they're talking about.

I do plan on speaking to advisors. I just wanted to see if anyone could pull a few cards for other advice or insight that an advisor won't be able to give me. Like if this is a temporary slump and I will be able to pull out of it, or something to that extent.

I understand. I wish you the best of luck! Yet again, I'm sorry I can't do a reading for you. I know that's what you initially wanted. Really though, good luck

Not sure how well I've read for you so I'll let you deceide on that.

But what I got is that you should transfer out of the program and into a completly different one. I don't see being an MD, at all....em I correct that you would still need to go to med school? However, I do see you being an holistic health, but not in the form of a physician of any sort..look more into a dietitian, that is what I am getting.

Wait... What's your major that you need 3.0? Pre-med?

ETA: See. I'm blind today. Ok. You need 3.

Hey thank you both.

Cherful- an ND is a naturopathic doctor which is holistic health!! So that sounds good and for the record you were extremely helpful in regards to my friend. I'm so grateful. Not sure if being a biology major is a program per say, but it's more for pre-med, medical school bound student who want to get their MD and take the MCats. (Which I don't plan on doing)

LP- my school requires a 3.0 GPA in the major alone to graduate with it. So if your majory is biology, psychology or whatver you need to have a 3.0 in those classes alone, the cumulative GPA for everything, gen ed, I belive can be lower.

I see, but some schools require an overall 3.0 for bio, psych... Etc. so I understand now why it's important.

i dont see you going on that route to any sort of physician...not even a ND. But I do see u still in the holisitc health, but (and I dont mean any offensive) it will need to be a few steps "lighter" than that of a physician. Perhaps in the future yes, but not now nor soon. I see a dietician very strongly for you....look into it one day if you're having a hard time on the road you are currently on

Sorry. But hey, I could be wrong!

@littlecloud, sorry to be off-topic and to bother you with this but it's easier than emailing any of the mods - could you close this thread http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/011662.html as well?

Thank you

Hmm...well I was thinking anthropology but maybe I can look into nutrition as well. I just don't agree with all the stuff taught in school...I'm just trying to take the best path right now without screwing myself up.

No one wants to take upon responsibility when it comes to serious question readings.

However, I've read "anthropology major" and knew I can do it.

Temperance + 3 of Pentacles

I like this spread so much. When it comes to diplomas, you can't have better card than 3 of Pentacles.

The tempering of the art (anthropology) and officially succeeding at it (graduation). It's beginner - pro combination for sure.

What about nutrition?

If you pull cards just to see if this is a phase I'm going through or what's my issue regarding school right now that would be fine.

I appreciate the time you took to answer.

Anthropology cliqued with me, so I went with that only.

- got Temperance. While it is a very affirmative card, and just feels right if you're about to change something, it also speaks of taking the middle road; not because you want a safe bet, but because you're new to it. Go easy. When 3 of Pentacles came up, it also stressed the importance of being able to maneuver the subject, having room, being able to approach the subject from every side. You'd love the material (anthropology : 3 of Pentacles is a populated card lol). Maybe you'll even love the new people you'd meet. However, this is the elaborating... The essence is - yes to anthropology.

What's the issue with your school right now?

Queen of Cups + 10 of Wands

You're sick & tired of it. Your heart isn't in it, and you keep feeling overwhelmed because you feel you should own up to it and make the call.

Yep pretty much. It's been a bumpy road, had to pull over a couple of times.

I feel really good abou anthropology, like I know I will do well, but I also know that it will be difficult to get a job as an anthropology major. I'm hoping minoring in biology would help.

Interesting you should mention "bumpy road" - 10 of Wands is just like that - almost there, one more step..

Keep me updated!
