I'm not sure what forum this should go in lol, if need to be moved plz do haha. I tried learning how to tarot read a few months ago but as I got busy with work I didn't have time or was low on energy to focus on doing a card reading with my deck. I've always came across the struggle of not clearing my mind properly or feeling like I was just being reckless with focusing on my deck... doesn't feel right... if anyone can give me tips on how to perform/prepare, what to think/focus on when trying to do a tarot reading, that would be grand! I'm hoping to try getting into it again. Thanks a bunch Hopefully I can get good enough in the future to read for anyone here properly

Hi LBL!

When I first started reading the tarot I found that if I was feeling depressed, angry or just plain in a negative mood it would transfer into my readings. It's like the analogy of being happy and excited to see a friend only to discover that she is in a real down mood. Guess what? Within a very short time you will be too.

I choose a room with the door shut and sometimes soft music playing. When I shuffle the cards I close my eyes and concentrate on the question. Sometimes I will do the readings outside on my patio if it's a sunny warm day.

I may not be as good as some of the more seasoned readers of LL but I can now look at the cards without having to revert back to a booklet of meanings. The more that you read for yourself or others the more your intuition will increase. I hope this helps a bit. Don't give up it can be fun Poochy

I agree with Poochy on having a place with no interruption and being in the right frame of mind.

I would also add that clearing your deck can be done through just verbally saying that you clear any negative energy in the deck or in the room. I call upon archangel Uriel to help. He reminds me of the planet Uranus, he's the awakener and brings lightning fast intuition. I always express gratitude for the cards & the chance to serve.

I also use various gemstones around me for my reading. I like to light candles as a representative of the light in me & the light of "good". Incense also helps me too!

I've used sage to clear space in a room and clear the deck all at once too.

Reading takes energy so I always try to be kind to myself even if I'm off. Sometimes readings don't resonate with the querent right away always but sometimes I've had them come back & say that it turned out the way the cards show.

Trust your ability, your intuition & the universe! I fully believe if your mind and heart are in the right place then te universe will present the appropriate cards so you can convey the necessary message

Hope this helps love

I would say sit with the cards and really feel them--trust them and trust the guidance from yourself (God, angels, spirit, whatever you acknowledge) when you read for yourself or others.

The biggest turn around for me in terms of reading for others (which I recently got into doing over the last year here on LL) was learning to trusting the deck completely! There are still times when I give the deck the side-eye, but I always say, it's me, not the deck! There are not hidden agendas with the cards, just the person reading them.

Also, I call upon angels to help me with the reading and also to guide the answers. That was the biggest turn around for me also.

Don't put too much pressure on yourself either....as you trust yourself, you will then trust the cards, and then finally the interpretations you give the cards! Do not rely solely on the originally meanings of the cards either; they can speak to you and you develop your own language with them. Soon, you'll have your own relationship with the cards :-)
