Topic: I'm kind of freaking out right now.. Tarot readers, have you experienced this?

I was doing a reading for this girl and she got an invitation to hang out with some guy friends, I drew The Moon, King of Cups, The Hierophant for her and the first impulse I had in my mind was rape but I didn't tell her so I wouldn't seem unethical.. I asked her if they were going to with each other at like 12AM or 1AM and there would be people under the influence, and I said this situation felt foggy.. she couldn't trust it either and she said it was right and they were going to a bar.. I told her my impulse and she told me one of the guys in the group raped her before. Yeah. I'm kind of disturbed now. What would you do in situations like this? I would have, yes, but not in a "I see rape in the cards." I think you did it fine by kind of leading into that subject rather than straight calling it since it's such a sensitive matter.IP: Logged |

Dude! This is so weird I was just thinking about posting a "What Cards Would Indicate Rape" thread in TTLG earlier today but I thought it would be too dark.I think you did a good job interpretation, you have to go with your gut but these cards could also mean something like drinking, driving, and getting pulled over so its best not to jump to "rape" right off. If one of the guys raped her before, why is she hanging out within his whereabouts again? IP: Logged |

Some people blame themselves for what happened instead of feeling like the victim ... I've seen that before. But I would have never thought rape with these cards. I still have a lot to learn

^Yes, but taking the fault does not mean you put yourself back in harms way. I think most if not all women have been in similar situations unfortunately and speaking from experience you stay as far away as possible from those men. I used to get panicy just thinking he might appear.

Yet people are not the same and have different coping mechanisms. What is good and right for you, might just perhaps not be for her. It honestly feels like you're judging her for not running for the hills everytime the girl sees her rapist. She's facing him, in her own way. That's something many victims can't do. Why should she stop doing things she enjoys and being around people she likes because of him? That only gives him more power over her. I say, more power to her if that's what she wants to do.------------------

^ I disagree with the last part of what you said. And for the record I don't happyaskings was judging, it sounded to me like concern and protectiveness. As in "is this girl going to be ok being around this guy. Is this really a good idea for her" Although I have to say, not sure I would see rape in this. Well I suppose I can see why...I would possibly see it as the guy not realizing he raped her. Or something similar to that effect. The cards don't look standard my abusive and malicious the way the 7 or 5 of swords would be. IP: Logged |

^ It's a matter of opinion and interpretation. Both are subjective and personal. I just shared what I thought.In regards to the cards, I'm more of an intuitive reader, so I don't assign them a particular meaning. I just let them speak to me and it's seemed to work best that way. ------------------

I wasn't judging at all, I just think it's a terrifying situation and I don't think it's in ones best interest to put themselves in harms way like that. Facing men like that does not make you look "strong" to THEM, even if it is a brave thing to do, they remember what they did and think they can try it again. 7 and 5 of Swords are not always malicious..the books aren't always right (it's most likely the author's take and opinion of that particular card, which is why I seldom follow/read books when it comes to spirituality, Tarot, etc). Especially on Tarot decks that get poorly illustrated because usually the artists/creators aren't even Tarot readers/psychic themselves.@littlecloud (sorry to go off topic about initial quest.) ------------------

Oh, okay. I'm sorry I misunderstood you. It's just that there are a lot of people who judge rape victims (they were asking for it, they wanted it, they're _____, etc etc) and I find that to be unaceptable. Didn't mean to offend you, so I apologize if I did - I just got overprotective myself. I wish she would pursue charges against the guy, but I still think that if this is how she's coping, by facing him and being around him, I can only support her in her choice. ------------------
