i've been doing my best, but if its totally wrong do let me try again

so first i tried reading with Hermetic and got

2 pents - princess of swords - ace of pents

i wasn't sure i did everything right and used dreaming way

knight of wands - 2 swords - 4 wands - chariot - queen of cups

i think the two spreads have key motifs in common

So what i get from this is that M is playing his/her own game, permanently seeking to do whatever it takes to reach the goals s/he has in mind. You seem sustainable and self-sufficient and it seems like you have something M needs ATM. Your kindness/compassion/desire to understand and comfort will perhaps kick in somewhere in this equation. M's objective is to re/charge his/her batteries in order to continue the quest. There also seems to be an almost business-like attitude towards this on M's part. All calculations done, s/he made the decision to take this course of action. I can feel no ill intent though. Most probably M believes everything will be ok when s/he continues this quest

Would you like me to pull clarification cards? As in what excatly this person wants, what the resource is? I really have no clue how accurate this is likely to be. Perhaps the fact that 2 decks say similar-ish things makes me hopeful

this is close to the vibe i think i got. it's all about comfort, being around people who are comfortable. someone by whose side it's nice to deal with external pressure (s)

perhaps M is unaware that it's gonna be a bit of a burden to yourself. Once again I am not sure I am sure about this. If this makes no sense let me try again tomorrow?

I had to chew on this spread for a moment because Navigators are generally male figures, but here, I strongly believe this is you protecting your freedom in relationships and not getting too attached after heartbreak. Passing is the act of you walking away from someone you still care for, but after that, you're not so hungry for commitment even though that seems to be the reason you walk away. The person to court you after will simply make you happy and commit by default. This is a very successful relationship. 3 of Leviathans is a work card, but I don't feel you meet this person through anything like work. I'm leaning more towards 6 of submersibles- a card representing pleasures and feeling at home. You meet this person through friends, family or by chance while doing something that makes you happy. You may partner together financially later, but that doesn't seem the basis for the meeting. He seems to be young and of your ethnicity/nationality/religion- not much foreign from you.

i did lay cards out

the short answer is seems like he felt something was taken away from him unjustly, so he's restless and willing to redress the balance. he feels confined and hampered unless he manages to do so. seems like in the long run he wants financial/material well-being (or status?), perhaps way above average, something fit to show off. so he never has to care about things being taken away from him. he sees himself as a bit of an adventurer, the prospect of winning this race tickles his glands. so he fluctuates between this and restlessness.

the question was: for the sake of what does M do everything he does? what is his ultimate goal?

i am not sure i am "not hungry for commitment", give me a stunner from the winchester brothers (circa 2008) sort of league and i'll be all for it. as is i'm afraid yeah, i've been unenthusiatic about commintment and even being open to people their fault, not mine

By the "quest" i was referring to top priorities in his life to which he pretty much subordinates all he does. I'd say he's very money and status driven.

I asked how he feels about you as well

chariot - death - 2 wands

there definitely is something going on in his heart, but maybe he's not properly aware of it. there's a lot of potential though. at this moment he's feeling strange. this quest on his mind confines him in all he does, BUT being around you somehow changes his attitude towards the quest, destabilises his outlook on life/the world?
