If you believe in past lives, you can also study Astrology, mainly North Nodes, South Nodes and so on. On Astrology forum has a good number of topics that covers this subject...

Ten years ago, with the same nagging feeling as you have now, I've also tried hypnosis stuff with no result, but I felt like I had to know about my past lives, like doing so would help me release some unconscious stuff and head on in life more slightly.
I abandonned the idea for years, forgot about it, in the following years I ve gone through a lot of transformation and personal evolution - and at 27 it's kind of fell on me during the Inverse Nodal Return without warning, I became able to go beyond the "Saturn's Veil" and travel in my past lives or even Other's.

I've got Sun/Pluto/South Node conjunction in Scorpio 9th - opposed Moon/Lilith/North Node conjunction Taurus in 3rd - square Jupiter in Aquarius 12
Neptune trine Moon and Sextile Sun/Pluto
Venus in Libra 8th, Mars in Libra 8th square Neptune

If you got an inner feeling that you need to know, be patient and confide in your soul guiding you - work on your personal evolution (spititual path) with dedication, and one day you'll remember.

In the meantime, here's a link to a youtube vid on past life guiding meditation - don't know if it actually works, but meditation in general could maybe contribute helping know yourself better :-)
