I don't know if it's because I cleansed a new batch of crystals underneath the full moon and they've brought forth a lot of negative emotions (I'm new to crystal healing) or if I'm approaching a mental break, but it seems life is starting to get the best of me.

For the first time ever, someone asked me what I believe in, and I said that I believed and had faith in the Universe and the stars. But then, I thought about how our minds are powerful beyond measure -- we believe what we choose to believe -- and wondered if everything I believe in is just a crock of sh*t made up and manifested in my own brain.

The simple yet loaded question sent me to a lonely, hopeless place and made me ponder my existence on Earth. I've been without a job for nearly two years; I've never had a romantic relationship; and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do or where I'm supposed to go. If the Universe has a plan in place, then when the hell is something good supposed to happen to me?

I've come to LindaLand for a reading of any kind -- something to give me a glimmer of hope for the future. Advice or guidance is welcomed too as I'll take whatever I can get right now.

David

Hi David.

The phrase which came immediately to mind in reading your post is that "from chaos comes growth". I can feel your despair and, believe it or not, I can understand it very intimately.

Please know that this time will produce something remarkable for you if you'll allow it to move through you and allow yourself to walk through it, not around it. There's a purpose for it. I can't tell you what that purpose is because it's not mine to tell; it's yours to learn.

Just know that you're not alone, but that every answer you need is inside you.

Prayers, positive thoughts and healing vibes.

I've read to do that before, but what does it actually entail? Do I let myself be sad and lonely until I feel better?

That's part of it, but only a part.

Face the sadness; own it. You do that by really working on it: figuring out where, in your soul, it's coming from - its true source - and then nurturing that part of yourself back to health.

It's so easy for us to think of sadness as something separate of us; something that affects us from a different place. It isn't. It's a part of who we all are. It's the gift which allows us to appreciate the beautiful things in our lives as beautiful - the yang to the yin.

By first embracing the sadness, we give it credence, legitimacy; we grant it a rightful place. Once it has that place within us, it becomes less a monster or specter (i.e., something to be feared), less demanding.

Once we take ownership of sadness, fear...all of the dark parts of ourselves we so often want to run and hide from...they lose their power over us. It doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen because we learn through choosing to 'own it' that we have the power to transform it. Until we do, those dark places own us.

Does this help? Make sense?

That makes sense, yes. I know exactly where my sadness originates, but sadly, I won't be able to work through it without the help of a therapist.

Thank you, LostTaurus.

If you don't mind my asking, what makes you say this David?

My clinical depression stems from an instance of childhood sexual abuse, which is something I can't tackle on my own.

I've met with professionals in the past year and a half, but haven't had access to those resources for six months.

You can though. It can be scary, but you can; and the process can actually be remarkably empowering. A therapist's function (outside of clinical mental illness of course) is, ultimately, to walk us through parts of our lives which we're afraid to walk through alone. Their function is to help us realize that we're bigger than the problem(s) we face. They don't do the work, we do - they just hold our hands while we do it.
