I usually do not believe in curses and spells. I think they are jokes.

However, there is no logical reason behind my current job situation.

I have been looking for a new internship/job for about a month now and although summer usually slows the process down on both ends (demands/offers), I haven't gotten a single call.

I really upgraded my resume, wrote better cover letters than I did last fall, have far more experience and I haven't gotten a single call!

Last fall, I had very very little experience and for some reason, I was getting a least a call every other day.

This time around, I haven't gotten a single one and I've applied to numerous jobs even those below my qualifications.

My phone hasn't rung once. I haven't received a single response to my applications.

Why is this happening?

Dani can explain this better i am positive of that.

But from what I see
Saturn just went retrograde and it is square your NN in 8th house of other people's money / endings and beginnings in Aquarius. Also Saturn rules your 8 th house cusp.

The ruler of your NN ( Uranus - the unexpected) is conjunct Neptune the ruler of your MC ( career) in the 6 th house of Work in Capricorn ( Saturn).

We just had a full moon in Capricorn and I believe there is an upcoming new moon in Aquarius.

Thanks!

What does this mean in less technical terms?

(I'm a completely illeterate here).

Will this "block" last a long time or is the situation likely to improve by September?

Not doing anything is starting to irritate me.

I started a few "entrepreneurial" projects but I still need some income and further experience but nobody is giving a second look to my stupid applications.

This is a real drought I had never experienced before ...

Nah, your not a victim of a curse, unfortunately you are just like thousands of post-grads who struggle to find employment. Submitting a resume is only an opportunity and never a guarantee, sadly.

It definitely is frustrating but you just have to stay positive and keep trying. You can always try calling the places you submitted to, they often like proactive approaches like that.

A month is also not a long period of time in the employment realm as well. The only thing you can do is keep trying and eventually things will break through.

Thanks Bella!

But how do you explain that I used to get calls for interviews almost every day (and I had little experience then) and now, I'm not getting anything (no interview, nothing).

Last time around, I got 3 very good job offers within a two week span.

I'm mainly looking for an internship, not even a "real job".

I graduated from a top university and while my former classmates are working at top-tier law firms and major NGOs, corporations, some even got into Ivys for post-grad I'm struggling to find an internship?

Studying at a top university should technically be the first door to getting interviews.

I don't have a liberal arts or architecture degree. I thought this selective and expensive degree was meant to help me find a good job, I guess it's useless.

Thank you Mincey! Your words are really encouraging.

What branch of law are you leaning towards? Have you already sat the bar exam?

I've already interned at two corporate law/finance firms in the past years. I don't really have any connections in the legal industry except from those. The first internship wasn't a good experience.

I did an unpaid internship two years ago (I was a senior in college at that point) and I just finished the paid one which lasted about 5 months.

I graduated from college about 9 months ago.

I've been looking in several countries since I have degrees from two different countries (Common Law/Civil Law), but nothing seems to be working at the moment. I do have a lot of patience but I despise inertia with a fierce passion.

Being stuck in the middle of nowhere when your former peers/friends are living the high life without a single hassle is disheartening.

Unfortunately, I do not have the means to go for unpaid internships because I have a rent to pay.

You'd think a degree is a good stepping stone towards a great career ... What a joke.

The problem with law degrees is that they are not versatile enough for you to switch industries in case the legal field isn't an option. They are too restrictive and most corporate jobs give priority to "economics/business" grads.

I am now forced to contemplate sitting the bar exam otherwise I'd remain severely "under qualifed" as opposed to my "peers".

Sigh. I don't even get call backs regarding the "Customer Service Rep" positions I applied for.

I am fully aware the market is tough but I am utterly disappointed and confused.

Ugh, unfortunately i cannot, sometimes employment is very cyclical and it sounds like you are on the wrong side of the cycle.

Law is a very, very tough field to break, because unfortunately a lot of it can depend on who you know and the connections you have. The market is also highly saturated, so you have to compete against many candidates. This means that you can put together an amazing application, but still get denied because the competition is so strong out there.

Eh, I'm going to have to disagree on the 'top university' comment, only because I am an equal opportunist and think everyone regardless of their degree should be given a chance. I understand the tier 1, 2, and 3 nature of American law schools, but having a degree is only part of the equation, even in law internships. My cousin went through a similar thing, and interesting the internship he has right now was least concerned with his degree and more about his experiences and philosophy. A degree, unfortunately, is often a prerequisite and not a guarantee of anything.

I'm curious, why haven't you taken the bar exam? I'm assuming you are in America right now? This could be a reason why you are passed over- if your competition have taken the bar exam it is highly probable the internship will select them over you (at least that has been the experience of my law friends).

RE: customer service rep- you might too qualified or not have the experience depending on your background. Happens more than you think.

I really think you just have to keep positive no matter the circumstances, because no one is stuck forever, but I understand why you are frustrated. To give you a different perspective, none of my peers are living the high life, in fact we are all in the same boat of developing our careers. Is there any volunteer work you can do in the meantime to bolster your resume?

Your words (presumably reflecting how you feel) remind me of where I was in September 2014. I was absolutely crushed at that time- it's not easy and trust me, you're not 'stuck'. Those who have struggled have more an incentive to make it- trust me on this one.

E-mail me at , I could be of some use to you if I knew more about which area you're interested in. Gonna delete the post. I have a couple of contacts which could be useful depending on which country you're looking at.

Thank you Mincey!

I will send you an email when I get home. Maybe you can have a quick look at my resume or give me advice regarding cover letters?

I hope you are right! Most of my peers have a "perfect" path with no hassle whatsoever, jumping from one opportunity to another and I am extremely jealous.

I'm resilient and determined, but I tend to compare myself a lot to others. I know career success is not a race, but I'm embarrassed I haven't achieved much (yet).

Maybe I'm just not meant to work in law, that's what I've been thinking lately. It's one thing to want something, it's another to get it.

Thank you very much for your help!

Thank you very much Bella This helped me look at the situation from a different angle.

I am not located in the US at the moment. Most of my friends have done their internships before even sitting the bar exam.
They interned during their third or fourth year of college (undergrad), went on to do their masters, sat the bar exam and got traineeships.

I will be sitting the bar exam in 2016 because I want to gain experience first, to make sure I'm making the right choice. Sitting the bar exam is definitely part of the plan.

In Europe, most students get their internship during the second, third or fourth year of college or even after graduation. They're called "summer vacation schemes/traineeships". I chose another path and I attended summer "schools" during college to get more expertise in certain fields.

I'm actually doing volunteer work at two different places (pro-bono legal advice and advocacy). I have around 6+ volunteering experience (coupled with my past experiences) . I was also the board member of a college society for two years.

All of this sort of lead me to well ... not very far at the moment. I'm not even specifically looking in the legal field, I've broaden my search.

A degree is most definitely not enough and networking is for sure the key to getting those internships/jobs but unfortunately, I don't have any close relations/acquaintances that could potentially help me with this.

I'm very embarrassed when I check my former peers' LinkedIns. Sure, I graduated with honors like them and have experiences they don't have, but at this stage, they are successful and I'm just working at getting my own luck started.

Even my Taurus ex who repeated 10th grade is now doing a PhD and has everything together! Hell, even my Pisces ex has a job (sure, he's a bartender, but at least he has a job in his chosen field).

You can't even socialize when you're looking for a position because the question is always "what do you do?". I can't. Right now, it's summer time so it's fine but it's still embarrassing nonetheless!

I'm thinking of enrolling in an online masters business law degree for the sake of add further expertise to my resume (I already applied and enrollment is allowed if you graduated with honors from that college).

Most people told me that they never want to be in their twenties again because of the constant doubts and fears, they were right!
