I did this spread to help me figure out an ideal relationship for me, but I got terrible cards for all the positions. Does this mean I should look for a bad relationship?!

I chose the Queen Of Pentacles as my significator since I'm a Taurus.

Card 1 – 12 o’clock: What sort of person am I seeking? 4 Of Swords

I'm unconsciously going for quiet homebody types who enjoy napping more than going out.

Card 2 – 3 o’clock: How will they see me? This card tells you what kind of person the other party is seeking.
4 Of Cups

He can't make up his mind with who he's looking for. He seems picky. He might think I'm picky and/or indecisive.

Card 3 – 6 o’clock: Where/how will I meet them?
7 Of Swords

I'm wondering if he'll be cheating on someone when we meet and keep that hidden from me.

Card 4 – 9 o’clock: What does this relationship have to teach me?
8 Of Cups

It seems like I'm supposed to learn when to walk away or I'm supposed to just walk away before it even begins.

I'm not sure I'm fond of how this spread is structured. First of all, the focus of a relationship isn't or shouldn't be to teach you something, especially the ideal one. As a matter of fact, only those that don't go well, the bad ones, teach us significant lessons. The ideal relationship helps you grow, sure, but the focus is to enjoy love, intimacy, being part of a couple, feeling safe and cared for etc etc. In other words, a positive focus.

So for this theme I suggest something like:

1. What sort of person do I need to be happy in a relationship?
and here at least 3-5 cards to describe the person thoroughly, psychologically, interests, physically too maybe
but if you are very advanced with Tarot, you can stick to one, for knowing all its possible meanings would give a full profile

4. What do I need to change/transform/grow about myself to be ready for this ideal relationship?
for it's a known fact we meet them when we are ready, and never before

3. In what circumstances am I likely to meet this person?
this would give you a clue about the opportunities/circumstances of your first meeting

4. Will I meet them, and if so, when?
if you feel ready to ask this, for your spread doesn't consider the possibility of not meeting them, which is realistically possible

but you may skip this step

5. How will the relationship be?
here you can draw more cards to evaluate the relationship with this ideal mate, how it will be, the challenges, degree of happiness, possible chain of events etc.

As for you spread, the 4 of swords means MANY things: someone who makes you think a lot about them, makes you dream and fantasize about them, sometimes obsess over them, a spiritual person, someone calm, peaceful, intelligent, creative, someone famous, someone older, with great imagination, a chiropractor and so on.

He doesn't seem to see you with the 4 of cups, that's not the card you want to get when you say "see", and I guess this basically shows the problems with this spread.

7 of sw - impossible to say with this one card, too many options

I'm not gonna comment on the last, for I said meeting your ideal mate so that he teaches you a lesson is a lame idea

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms...

I don't think these cards are telling you to go for bad relationships, but I do think that they are trying to tell you something deeper than just the images on the cards.

For example, what sort of people are you seeking? Are generally someone who pursues the objects of your affections? Of the last say 6 guys you considered being with, how many of them did you 'chase'? Or Show an interest in first?

Yeah I tend to go for the guys first. My Venus in Aries makes me unafraid to approach men... I also like to be proactive and make a move instead of waiting.

Thank you! I was tempted to just scrap the reading and do another one, so I'm glad you're suggesting to.

I get that. I have a lot of Aries in my chart. I'm not judging you. However, maybe that card is symbolic of that situation. You go for guys who are generally unbothered, in an attempt to win them over? You may find this enjoyable, but I understand that it can lead to pulling spreads like this. You should go for guys who shows more of an outright interest. It's not your job to win them around!

....but, considering this may be the profile of your ideal mate, he would see you as the gal he has been dreaming about (4 of cups) as it should be

True... but the guy is looking away from the offered cup on the traditional 4 of cups card; it seems like he doesn't want anyone...

I chose the Queen Of Pentacles as my significator since I'm a Taurus.

Card 1 – 12 o’clock: What sort of person am I seeking? 4 Of Swords

You are seeking a man who is relaxing to be around. Whose company you will be able to to enjoy, no drama involved. Easygoing!

Card 2 – 3 o’clock: How will they see me? This card tells you what kind of person the other party is seeking.
4 Of Cups

This one, I'm not sure of. If you're a daydreamer, maybe he'll like that about you - although I associate that more with the 7 of Cups.

It's another 4, so that should be compatible. So, simply someone he's compatible with.

Card 3 – 6 o’clock: Where/how will I meet them?
7 Of Swords

Maybe he will be sneaking out of a party or group that doesn't interest him. Or maybe they'll find a way to meet you - like have someone introduce you, but not let on that they asked them to.

Card 4 – 9 o’clock: What does this relationship have to teach me?
8 Of Cups

If he's a relaxing kind of guy, maybe he'll help you to move on from something or someone.
