The hermit - ace of cups - the hierophant - the lovers - 8 cups

He's in a place where he's not quite ready for love it seems. There might have been a past disappointment or a past experience, which ended up leaving him with the idea of what love is, so he's got it in him yet not really ready to interact with others romantically.

I feel like ultimately at this stage he thinks he needs a committed relationship, perhaps even resulting in marriage. He thinks the universe owes it to him, so he will be considering every woman in his life in this light, if she's cut out to fill the vacancy. the problem seems to be though that he's not ready for romance

This makes so much sense, I do know his past and I do know what you say is very true.
Its true he is not ready, I see this in him.
I also do believe he sees we have the connection but being not ready is what keeps him away.
