I'm not intuitive but I draw fool and eight of wands for clarification..so I think your friend will be fine. The 8 of Wands indicates a positive change of mind with health. But good anyway you informed police! All the best

ALWAYS take suicidal intent as serious.

There is no crystal ball for this one, and you don't want to get it wrong.

Get her support ASAP, and let the experts assess her.

I hope she is OK.

yeah I did call the police to conduct a welfare check. They went to her home and she wasn't there. Tried calling and texting also with no luck. However, I did notice she just deleted the status

Yes I did Cherful.

Police are for immediate risk management, however, if someone is suicidal there are generally long-term reasons that require further assessment and intervention - this is what I meant by "support".

Hey Missblyss,
you have done the right thing. If she is an adult I would consider encouraging her to seek full assessment of her mental health.
I am in the UK. Here we would do this through the GP.
If she is a child, then please tell her parents. You may be the only one who will respond, many are often frightened to respond to individuals who are suicidal.
You may save a life.

She called the police. Here in America they will put a 5051 hold on her thus she will get psychiatric treatment, and she did say she's getting in touch with someone who knows her parents

Yeah :/ unfortunately getting taken to the psych ward is about as far as treatment goes in this country, unless she chooses to seek it out on her own.. however, being in a different part of the state I can't do much to get her there.

My update is that she posted another status saying she won't do it, but she is still depressed. Of course, I will encourage her to get treatment... but not much I can really force her to do, especially without being closer. Unless anyone has ideas that I'm not thinking of.

Yes this is difficult with the distance.
For people who have cyclical depression and suicidal ideation, it is helpful to develop a crisis plan with someone they trust, and any professionals involved with them.

It would incorporate:
- "protective factors" - reasons for living
- crisis lines to call
- relaxation techniques (if anxiety is present)
- alternative thoughts (for negative rumination
- distraction/expression techniques (music, walking, writing, etc)

I don't understand how America works on this one, hospitalisation is only necessary if someone can't agree to keep safe. Possibly the mid-range resources are limited because most psychological care is privatised.

That's good she is safe now. I'm glad you've been there for her as much as you can, knowing someone is listening can make a huge difference. One of the common factors in suicidality is a sense of being alone with the pain.

It's like alcoholism. They have to want to change and seek help. However what you said is not true. You could always put a 5150 hold on someone. And if she truly is suicidal they will keep her. So if you did call the cops saying that she was suicidal by law they would have had to have taken her to get psychologically evaluated. You can keep calling the police until they eventually meet up with her
