I don't really think there will be communication between u two, and if there is, it'll be something quick. Probably him initiating contact. He will try to keep things bottled up and be very analytical about it and controlling his feelings. Though yes he will think about this, a lot actually, and analyze it back and forth, but not letting it show I think.
However he will be affected emotionally very strongly and might feel like the wound was reopened and feel that he is missing you and regretting how things ended, or maybe even that things ended. But he has got no hope.
with Ace of cups however ther emight either be tears (secretly) or after working through that feeling of loss, he might open up emotionally again.
