Did you have a conversation recently with MM where you were frank about your thoughts? He may have had a bit of surprise and be feeling a little fragile as a result as if you 'saw' through him. It this isn't the case he sees you as someone determined, strong and intent on her goals. There may be some things hidden yet about MM that you do not yet know. Some of the things that seem great might have a side to them that has yet to be revealed to you.

Does this make sense?

Re finances:

it seems that he is regretful of somethings that have happened in the past, I feel like he wants to take accountability and express his feelings of regret, through apology. I am not sure if he wants to re-start anything with you, 10 of swords shows an ending, I don't get a new start between you two.

ok it shows that this intership will provide you with lots of experience that you will need for your future, so you will benefit greatly from it, but it also shows that it will be a bit stressful, and you will have a lot on your plate, there also seems to be a male here that will be quite demanding and authoritative.
