It was you who told him directly about this date ?! If not, it seems it was a female person, a friend, who brought this news for him, like "hey, do you who I saw last night at the pub with a guy?!..." something like that. However it seems he have shown a grounding and down to earth reaction to this story, like he doesn't care at all, but deep inside his ego is killing him. Why ?! He kinda wants to keep you chained, and another guy trying to roar in his jungle means "warning". As for his feelings, I would say he felt jealous.

Ok so have you recently left a relationship or..has he? Or something along those lines. Right now; he is feeling isolated from you physically so is this long distance or something? I think he does perceive you as vibrant, young, attractive but he hasn't put in place any movement towards you

It seems he kinda felt confused with your messages, or didn't get your view, feelings and reasons to write that. It feels like he's moving away from you or do not replied yet. Thought it's good for his ego to keep you around, he doesn't want to fool you, misleading you.

so his intentions are completely like..legit. He finds you very attractive finds and would like to have fun with you go out thinks I could introduce her to the family at some point. I would say process is slow going between you two. But he can see like building up things on ward as some point. I'd say this guy is a nice person decent...intentions are there.
