My situation is that my ex-bestfriend who I was romantically involved with in the past messaged me after a couple of months of no contact. His message involved asking me how I was and why life is so hard. This ex-bestfriend has a long term girlfriend which is why i decided to end our friendship. I cant be friends with him for now. Not when I still have strong feelings for him. I have not replied to his message.

Now, I'd like to know what his intentions were by messaging me. I also want to know if there is anything I need to know about his feelings for me.

well it seems he was curious how u were doing... I dont feel he has changed drastically but he miss the friendship and I think he wants to talk ... I dont feel like he wants anything deeper than that as he seems to be a bit selfish but misses the converstations you have. he is genuinely curious about you though and hes not turning down u guys meeting up as I feel part of him does want that but like u said you aren't ready for that right now.
