I'm sorry guys, but I bet the dolphin enjoys working. They are the most intelligent animal after humans, right? I bet they get satisfaction from doing their duty, for real IP: Logged |

I hope you're not ashamed of me, Peg1) If these dolphins can better find sea mines & help to finish the de-mining process of the harbor faster than ALL OF YOU SHOULD BE FOR IT! 2) Why... because humanitarian food shipments will be able to get to the children & people of Iraq FASTER! 3) What's the cost... lose one OR NO dolphins; as opposed to losing THOUSANDS of HUMAN BEINGS to malnutrition, dehydation, or starvation? 4) Perfect example of... Hi LL- Hmmm, yes, your point is very rational. I guess the biggest reason it is sad is that we are employing the abilities of one of the most peaceful creatures on Earth... to help in a war. That bothers me, yes.Anyway, your point is taken. Also, I was told by someone else that it is unlikely that a mine could go off on them as it takes a very large object to make a mine detonate, so I suppose that is good Hmmm, maybe the dolphins are teaching us something right now about peace?

I happened to catch the live TV interview and journal of the Dolphins. It was remarkable. These wonderful creatures were treated with great love and respect. It was obvious how much the military people loved these Dolphins and how the Dolphins loved them back. They are not in danger, they are trained to pick the land mines via their inherent sonar and to not go near the mines, they are very safe. I think it is all a matter of perspective, as these intelligent animals are being utilized with humane care and their safety is very carefully guarded. Donna IP: Logged |

Thanks Donna! Yes, she is absolutely right. I am a member of PETA and the Humane Society. You can also look at it as to how we use dogs in search missions ect. and they love the work and their 2 leggeds. juniperb PS Alena, no cans of worms here because sometimes we have to look outside the box to recognize for "the good of all" including the dolphins with it`s high intellegence, being happily productive, loved and receiving the ultiment health care. Yes I think it's ok that the Dolphins are aiding our divers. I think it's nicer as another scenario could be Dolphins surrounding our boats crying and in distress.Dolphins may be peaceful yet they are still willing to help protect us and help us in our quest for a greater solution. Love and Light to these beautiful creatures and our beautiful Navy men and women. IP: Logged |

I guess LL is right- can't fight logic - but if dolphins are ever used to harm someone- like locating enemy submarines so they can be torpedoed, for example, then I will object. I'm glad they're helping us.------------------ Hello everybody! I used to be QueenofSheeba and then I was Apollo and now I am QueenofSheeba again (and I'm a guy in case you didn't know)! IP: Logged |

Dolphins are extremely social creatures and they love to play / interact with other species. They are also one of the few mammals that have sex for the fun of it. They perform in the same manner as seeing eyes dogs, rescue dogs and animals used for tracking. It is a reward thing that makes them feel good (many studies have been done on this). IF, there was a possibility that they would get killed or were dying from this I would be completely against it. It still breaks my heart to know of the dogs left to die after certain wars. It also broke the hearts of their handlers. IP: Logged |

Yeah, I'm gonna have to side w/ Leo & pid on this one (!!! ).Dolphins are one of the few creatures (and one of I think 2 non-primates...although the jury's still out other on whales and whale-y creaturesm, right?) who can have a sense of "self" and "other", and - being highly intellegent mammals - have a more than healthy sense of play and social interaction/bonding. I bet - if nothing else - they derive some degree of satisfaction and enjoyment from the both their interaction w/ their handlers and the challenge of it all. My only concern is that, while they may be in no danger w/ such missions, this may open up the door to missions in which they will be in grave danger - but that's a bridge to be crossed when it comes, I guess.

The interesting thing is, not one of the Dolphins are on a leash, chain, or rope. They swim completely free and unfettered. That says a lot to me, as they have the choice of simply swimming out to sea, roaming free, never returning. I, personally, believe the integrity of the Dolphin nature would not allow itself to be used destructively toward mankind. Donna IP: Logged |

Yeah Dolphins do have sex just for the fun of it, lol I was watching discovery channel a month ago & they say dolphins try to have sex with sharks, seals, humans, & even underwater posts of piers... Sounds to me like a very promiscuous species IP: Logged |
