Just thought it might be a fun celebration of our Global Unity (and rather treasured global differences) to share some of our holidays and other traditions/customs. We have so many people here from all over the world.Anyone have anything they'd like to share? Are there any holidays nearing? Aside from Labor Day over here (first Monday in September), the next holiday for me is Rosh Hashonnah, or Jewish New Year. This means bland food at my family dinner. Since Rosh Hashonah is considered to be a sweeter holiday (celebrating the New Year), sweeter foods are often eaten. Mmmm..honey cake...yum Anyone else? I'm really curious! IP: Logged |

I heard they make the river green in Boston on St. Pattie's Day. How do they do that?On Canada day we turn on the waterfalls on the High Level Bridge here in Edmonton. It pretty cool, cuz they cascade from the top of the bridge, and you can walk across the bridge under the water fall. It's a man-made water fall, obviously, but it's still cool. There's always some special interest group or someone who protests the "waste of taxpayers money" whenever they turn it on, so they only do it once a year. But even still, people complain. Sourpusses. Anyway, I thinks it cool. IP: Logged |

Kind of a narrow existence isn't it, when someone's idea of fun is protesting someone else having fun. jwhop IP: Logged |

They dye the Chicago River as well on St. Patti's Day! Exciting holiday for me coming up... OG plans were to take the Lioness to the Biggest California Music Festival ever... but I dropped her on her birthday & sold the tix to a friend... Now there's tradeshow that weekend... (Skate/Surf/Snow) X-Games type show... it's like the HUGEST convention all year for the industry... my production company is trying to get some free passes, and I'll go! Last year I saw it let out.. SO MANY FINE WOMEN! RRRrrr! Plus skaters were riding all up and down my street all weekend busting -ut off EVERYTHING... I went out there the following week to try to mimic the trix... Let's just say I FELL short Anyways, so other than that, Saturday Day-Party at a homeboy's OC Pad, loungin by the pool with chicas in bikinis...love it! Then my my bestfriend's lady's sister is getting married Sunday night and she's been BEGGING me to cruise to the wedding reception with my other homie... I dunno though... perhaps... we'll see... Weddings ARE great places to have a quick fling though, lol... all the single women become so insecure, lol... But of course, I would never take advantage of that... just... if they felt a NEED to outlet some of their frustration with men/society into one night of lusty passion... well... they can use me j/k IP: Logged |

I tried Lion... believe me I tried... but we're just too different... She TRIES TO CHANGE ME...(slow-me-down) ALL-THE-TIME!!!Also, I'm where I live, she's in OC... she's stuck in the "bubble" mentality of Orange County, thinking that everything good is only in Orange County. When in fact, she has NEVER been out of Orange COunty... I know there's SO MUCH MORE to the world and want to travel, explore and I LOVE CRAZY THINGS!!! You know it's tradition for me to take my date on my Vegas trips to bungee-jumping... and you know what, she wouldn't even hear of that...LAME! Plus she told me once she wanted to be a prison guard or a cop... After that I was like WHAT THE $%^&!!! Talk about a power complex... I dislike cops A LOT!!! They're simpleteons with power they horde over people... Anyways, and we fought, and she's kinda shallow... I know deep-down she's good person and not shallow... but it would take months to get past that... maybe a year... And don't call me a jerk, but I don't want to have to go through all that right now, ya know? I'm happy with how I am, I don't NEED a chick right now I've finally realized (after a year of confusion & lostness) And one that makes my life SO difficult SO early in a relationship is too much... Plus, she was WAY COCKY AND EGOTISTICAL.... Had to break her down in a HARSH way...look girl, you're NOT THE BOMB HALF, I AM!!! LOL j/k But I did break her down... REAL BAD... bet it p*sses HER OFF TO HIGH HEAVEN!!! LOL No man has ever dumped/disrespected this girl, they all worship her... I have had meaningful relationships with other Lionesses, but not this one, maybe Cancer Moon, but probably her family issue she has... it's with her abusive drug/alcohol addicted father that treated her Mom like crap and just set the MOST f'd up role model of a father for her... naturally causing her to have "MAN" issues... Is that your birth dad that you were trying to find Aphrodite? (I thought someone mentioned something to that effect in another thread). If so, WOW! That's big. LL, that's more likely the Virgo ascendant..."pick pick pick. Allow me to point out what a mess you are. Allow me to bash everything you stand for. Ok, now...don't you feel much better? I do."
Oh, I do know my Virgos. Insane that I'm so fond of them, being such a Lion and all. Oh woe is me...I just can't get into doing any work today. First day back after my holidays, and I just wanna sit here and veg and talk to you guys. I don't mind being here, I just don't wanna do anything. I'm so glad I have my own office. Now, if I could just get a blind on my window, (which faces out into the secretaries' area...I don't have an outside window, unfortunately...BOO) Blah. Is it Millar time yet? IP: Logged |

Hi Oxychick,I have been thinking about your question for a while, and have come to the conclusion that the tradition I have . . . is to break tradition The most worthwhile experience with this is being free to do anything. This is my own Karma, and I fully enjoy it. Hi Lioneye, Yes, it's my natural father He's driving down from Eureka to San Francisco to meet on Saturday. Hi Lost Leo, I couldn't help but grin, but in a good way. To see you go out dating and wanting things to work out ideally. At least you could write down in your list, you dated a beautiful woman who aspired to be a prison guard. That's pretty interesting. Some men in San Francisco will find that pretty hot. I'm sure you'll get a good laugh out of this many years down the line. Although it probably doesn't seem like it now. Aphrodite IP: Logged |

oh, tsimmes is a baked goodie with sweet and savory vegetables and traditionally some meat. 2/3 of the vegetables are cut into chunks and placed with meat into a 13x9x3 pan or dish. the other 1/3 of the vegetables are shredded and bound with egg, spices, and may be some matzo meal. tsimmes is baked for about an hour in the oven at 350F. traditional ingredients are prunes, sweet potatoes, carrots, honey, and beef. Aphrodite, I felt similarly when I met my birth folks...cool as a cucumber. Enjoy yourself! You know, one of my favorite holidays is Halloween. Very rarely do I wear a costume, but I love to see what other people choose. You can learn a lot about people if you watch and listen... IP: Logged |

*thinks to self* "Beautiful Hottie that wants to be prison guard"Sounds like maybe she was headed toward stripping or something... Because a Hot Woman in a prison wouldn't last long at all... you have to be beastly or they'll attack you in a second... IP: Logged |

Now you're in the spirit She has to wear black leather boots and be quick with a revolver to get a job like that. May be you could get her to do those things before she actually lands the job. IP: Logged |
