What's your take on genocide? Is it the responsibility of those with the power to directly stop it to do so? Is the only action that can legitimately be be taken pre-emptive, dealing with policies and stances that may lead to such conflict in a constructive manner? Or is there nothing that can be done without encroaching on internal politics and soveriegnty? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3224176.stm IP: Logged |

This was the central issue behind the Iraq debate: when we know that a certain country is having a bad day, do we try to make it better? By force if necessary? Or do we let them handle it themselves? In principle, we should try to help them, by force if necessary. In practice, peacekeeping forces are often treated hostiley by the natives. This can lead to them being withdrawn, or in bad cases driven out. In sum, I don't know. I guess we need to learn how to help countries more effectively. ------------------ Hello everybody!
