In your opinion, what should the "developed" world do in order to aide those starving? Should they increase direct food aide? For that matter, does sending strictly food aide to starving populations simply work to compound the problem by allowing for further population growth in areas that can not sustain it? Should they take steps to forgive loans, thereby easing the often crippling burden of debt? Should further steps be taken to remove those in power who may be funneling the overwhelming bulk of any aide funds or funds obtained through trade in natural resources purely to their own families and associates? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3236364.stm IP: Logged |

I think we should send droves of permaculturists all over the world to teach people how to grow their own food. Some areas, where desertification has set in, should recieve the resources they need to reverse desertification and restore food forests. I think that the only way to end world starvation is for communities to be largely, if not entirely, self sufficient as far as food production is concerned.Easier said than done but far from impossible. I agree with Harpyr. Sending (food) relief to poorer countries may be good for short periods of time, but if done continually I think it would do more harm than good. Local farmers and businesses who are trying to make an honest living would suffer the most. Who would want to pay for something if you could easily get it for free? Self sufficiency is the way to be.
