Can France really be prosecuted for unmoral, unethical and simply greedy behavior? How devastated the French people must be

It's doubtful the inept, bungling bureaucrats at the UN could or would mount a prosecution against France or any of the companies or individuals involved. It's also true that France, China and Russia have veto rights on the Security Council.

On the other hand, most nations have laws against bribery. Whether prosecutors would choose to prosecute is uncertain.

The main problem for France and French companies is that the new government of Iraq might refuse to do business with them. That's a real problem because France wants oil exploration rights and wants contracts already entered into with Saddam Hussein honored.

In the mean time, as more facts come to light and the proof supporting them, those nations, individuals and companies will be tried in the court of public opinion.

It appears, I am too direct sometimes.

Be careful using the word "messenger."

No, the frown was not meant for you.

Well.. yeah.. that sucks. I would have liked to think that France was truly taking a moral stance on the matter but I'm not surprised at all by this.
Since when is any country not lead by their pocketbook?

Doesn't surprise me in the least. France doesn't know how to take the moral ground. An historical stereotype maybe but grounded in truth. I stress France as a nation of course - not pointing the finger at any individuals. Lest my Breton ancestors roll in their graves. France wrote the book on political diplomacy. NOT a compliment. Hey, they're a pragmatic bunch. Remember, it's not personal ... it's business.
