Aaaaawwww.. we're not thaaaat biting with our comments around here lately. We are really quite civil compared to the early days of this forum.

But, for future reference, I like sweet-n-sour.

Uh oh. Gloria's in the house. eeping:

Actually it's been rather calm around here lately. Jwhop, pidaua, and MK have all taken a leave of absence. We're accepting applications for a cynical, hard-headed, narrow-minded conservative Republican type replacement. Just to brighten the place up a bit. Right now ain't nobody in the ring but us hippie-communist-tree huggin'-liberals. But still, just imagine the possibilities - Jwhop and astro junkie! Clash of the titans. Speaking of titans, where's uriel?

I know, I know ozone. I say the same thing. "But I'm NOT a liberal!" And I really don't think that I am. But if forced to choose I'll go with the tree huggers. I've just found them more openminded. Plus, the religious extremists (my real fear) seem to prefer the hard right.

Has the new recuit been hired or is she still being interviewd?

astro junkie ~ I enjoy poking snakes. It's tops on my list of most favored hobbies. Yes, I have been bitten. Yes, I will continue to poke.

Actually, aj, that's something impossible to answer on my end.
Sure, you have conservatives w/o compassion, but you also have liberals lacking in that same quality (you know, "I care about you so much that I'm going to make you a martyr!").
There are as many "liberal" tyrants as "conservative".

For my part, I've seen that there are caring people on ends of the political/ideological spectrum, but that their lives have given them different opinions on what it is to care.
There are all types at each point of that spectrum, so any list attempting to pin point specific qualities would be, at best, an overarching generalization.

Prox -

check this out...

Tell me, if someone is of dark color, negroes being someone of true african-american descent - what is the politically correct way to "label" them these days?

Oh - what do we think of when we think "African-American"...

OK - but since the 4th grade, I remember STILL being tormented by the evaluation forms they passed out every year. "What are you?" A. Hispanic B. Black C. White

Ummmm... okkkaaaaaay

Maybe it's just that the libs are the only ones who seek a fight - the conservatives can't be bothered They believe what they believe and don't feel it's necessary to justify themselves to people they consider to be illogical in the first place

Now, now Isis. There's no need to stick out your little tongue. I'm looking for a honest, healthy debate - not a fight. Certainly not like the fight recently engaged in by you and Carlo. The better to understand you, my dear. Believing what you believe and not wishing to discuss it is sometimesadmirable and sometimes close-mind and arrogant. Sometimes it's even an indication of uncertainty. I can not adequately defend that which I do not truly understand or believe.

MK! losing touch with the latest news really isn't so bad. I imagine you are getting in touch with more important things. How ya doin out there in paradise?

Proxieme, of course you're right. We shouldn't generalize. Maybe it's better if I label the conservative train of thought as lacking compassion, rather than the conservative himself.

C'mon astro junkie. The game is never over. You know that.

Now now Tink - I did not realize there was any serious debate going on here, just a lot of playful poking going on. Hence my multiple use of

Where in here is there a serious debate? This is a thread full of playful "poking" as far as I can tell, and I'm down with a tickle now and then myself...

Ozone - take a look in this thread at who was *poking*... c'mon. I was neither the first nor the only one. Yet I am the only one being given **** for it?

I mistakenly thought this was a silly-poking-fun-thread in which everything was said in good fun.

Can somebody please delineate, specifically, the differences in ideology, beliefs, assertions, trains of thoughts, and all other what-nots, between liberals and conservatives? So much here turns into republicans vs. democrats or liberals vs. conservatives that I'm getting a little disoriented. Maybe I'm just a "middle" kind of person, but the way I feel about different issues falls into all sorts of categories that don't seem to go together too well. Sometimes I think both sides are right and perhaps should try to compromise.
I don't think that makes me the kind of person that lacks conviction or anything ... I just like to pick apart issues based on what I individually believe and how it affects the other persons/beings/entities involved. It makes no real difference to me if soandso's policies or behavior falls into {____} category.
Also, and I mean this with the utmost sincerity, of those of you here that consider yourselves to be specifically one or the other (democrat/republican/liberal/conservative) do you follow that party/political leaning all the time because you just are "one of them"? For example, do you always vote republican because you are of that party? Or do you research and try to find who the best person for the job would be regardless of political affiliation? Or both? Seriously. (I registered as an independent and I don't really follow the "parties" as a whole ... I tend to base my opinions on the individuals and their actions/ideas whenever possible, or the policies/issues themselves.) This kind of die-hard attitude one way or the other is new to my immediate sphere of intellectual involvement, and I'm very curious as to how different people view these sorts of things. I hope I'm not offending anyone ... I just really am curious since it appears to be very important to people here.
LOL I hear my highschool history teacher's voice in my head as I type this, "Never get into a discussion about politics or religion with someone if you only wish to see them at their best." I still hope he was wrong about that.

aj - I have no blessed idea what people should be called. I could give my idealistic, anthropology-major driven image and say, um..."People", but that won't happen any time soon; so I guess one should call a self-delineated "group" whatever it expresses it wishes to be called.
I'll call a group "Wicker People" if that's what they want.

I dunno
According to some I guess I should hate myself b/c I'm of a rather "mixed" ancestry.
