What would it be? I mean, if the govt came to you and granted you one wish, anything you wanted (in relation to the country, it's policies, laws, whatever). Please, something tangible, the one thing that is most important to you. I'm not talking about "world peace", or broad things like that. (I will answer too, just need a few to really think about it ) ------------------ “The good things which belong to prosperity are to be wished, but the good things that belong to adversity are to be admired.” Seneca IP: Logged |

Yeah I'd need some time to really ponder this one.. but off the top of my head I'd say redistribution of agricultural land to millions of small farmers who agree to farm sustainably. I'd have to say, changing the taxation system to a flat tax - for everyone, both personal income and corporate. A flat rate, period, no write offs, no loopholes, nada, just say, 10% period. You earn $300/month, you pay $30, you earn $3000/month, you pay $300, you earn $300,000,000 (a corporation), you pay $30,000,000. ------------------ “The good things which belong to prosperity are to be wished, but the good things that belong to adversity are to be admired.” Seneca IP: Logged |

My wish? To create a lot of unemployed workers in this country (IRS and associated fields). Flat tax? Nah. National sales tax! ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." You want more people to be unemployed in this country,Randall? ...but I think that National sales tax would be a good thing to,but so long as it still varies from state to state and that those could be exempt, according to what one makes from the wages that they receive. Sort of like having a Price Chopper discount card. I can only think of helping others, just to make this country just a little bit stonger! IP: Logged |

Only food, housing, and medicine should be exempt. Other than that, everyone pays. If I want that yacht, I pay the tax. The problem with the flat tax is that the IRS and the income tax are both still around. Let the IRS get real jobs...or stand in the soup kitchen line. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." It did just strike me though, what do you think about the things that taxes once formally provided for,Randall? Like roads, schools, other improvments that would be required for the norm and the natural order of things, like emergency situations and such?Who's going to pay for all that? IP: Logged |

The sales tax would cover all the income tax does and more. It also encourages savings (which Americans don't do). A flat tax is a good second choice, but I would rather the IRS were completely eliminated. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Yes,but can it be done? We have better chances (now) to eliminate the CIA rather then the IRS, is there any politician out there that is really taking any of those steps to free America from income taxes?~I mean in the sence that you would like it be done? IP: Logged |

I wouldn't want a national healthcare system because, quite frankly, everything the govt touches turns to $hit . Even w/ a National Tax you're going to need bodies to administer, maintain, and collect...I'm all for dismantling the IRS too, but they'd just create another bureacratic nightmare to deal with the National Tax. If there's a flat tax, you need less manpower because it's just straightforward. No matter what you earn, or where you live, or what you own, you pay a flat rate, period. Computers could deal with most of that... ------------------ “The good things which belong to prosperity are to be wished, but the good things that belong to adversity are to be admired.” Seneca IP: Logged |

The states would collect the sales tax at the source, and it would be easy based upon reports of receipts done by businesses. State income taxes would quickly be revoked and converted to the same system. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." It`s a wish Isis, so I still wish for free health care for all. I never thought a 'wish list' could become debatable ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |

I can only speak for myself, but I wasn't debating - I agree a wish list isn't debatable. It's more of a discussion - from where I'm sitting anyway Keep em comin'...I know we have a bunch of opinionated folk in here, so, come on, what would that wish be...? ------------------ “The good things which belong to prosperity are to be wished, but the good things that belong to adversity are to be admired.” Seneca IP: Logged |
