i just read this article about Pat Tillman - political debates about war aside, he sounds like he was a really fascinating person. with all the other horror stories coming out of Abu Ghraib and whatnot, i'm feeling a particular need to grab onto to the positive intensity of this guy's legacy right now. does anyone know anything more about him? http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/05/04/SPG5K6FD091.DTL thanks, x IP: Logged |

I have been paying attention to reports about him too. Can't say that I've heard much more than this article states though. I think I read that he was married only a few months before he signed up and then refused to do any interviews about it. Now that's rare! Also, I believe he gave up a larger salary in order to play with his home team. A very intriguing man. Seems as though he possesed qualities from another time almost. We live in such a neurotic, dishonorable age. Plays football AND reads Emerson?! A rare beast indeed. IP: Logged |

Yes, such honor is unfortunately rare in this day and age, he seems to be a shining example of how we could all be a little better, make more honorable decisions, etc. And it's a tragedy that someone who set such a great example is gone. I'll leave the "hero" claims to others, I just think he was a damn fine person from what I've read.------------------ “The good things which belong to prosperity are to be wished, but the good things that belong to adversity are to be admired.” Seneca IP: Logged |

Ditto Isis "hero" is an overused, worn out, dime a dozen word. But honorable is awfully hard to find.IP: Logged |

I was looking through old threads for a completely different reason and found this one. Ironic how only a few weeks ago someone posted the disparging article from Tillmans brother. Yet, two years ago we admired Tillman, his service and our sacrifices.

Sunday I had the honor of attending Pat Tillman's dedication ceremony at the Arizona Cardinal Stadium in Glendale. I was ecstatic to attend the Cowboy's game, but it made it sweeter to be able to attend the ceremony. It began with the Honor guard marching out a large US Flag, clips of Tillman's interviews, pictures in Iraq and everyday football / life pictures flashed across the big screen. His wife left us a message with her support for what her husband did in Iraq, for what we are doing in Iraq and how she admires those that serve our Country. She thanks the Arizona Cardinals for the beautiful bronze statue of her late Husband. When the pictures of Tillman and his fellow Soldiers were displayed on the screen, the whole stadium erupted in Cheers and Applause. There was not one disparging word from the family. I hope this pic comes through, I took it at the ceremony... Sorry...I can't seem to get it to post- you'll have to follow the link. http://groups.msn.com/LindalandPhotoShop/pidauaspics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=2010 IP: Logged |
