Lip service'll do very little for those deployed, injured as the result of deployment, or in hardship because of the same - but this'll do a world of good:Pre-Paid Calling Cards for Troops (Through AAFES - The Army & Airforce Exchange Service) You can support: MILITARY TROOPS Deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) / Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) The American Red Cross will distribute your Prepaid Card(s) to military personnel deployed in support of ongoing military operations (not recognized as tax deductible donations). AIR FORCE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES The Air Force Aid Society, as the official charity of the United States Air Force, agrees to accept Prepaid Card(s) from individuals or companies who choose to contribute the cards to Air Force members and their families. DEPLOYED, WOUNDED AND HOSPITALIZED SERVICE MEMBERS The Fisher House supports military personnel wounded in action and those seriously ill being treated in military hospitals in the U.S. and overseas. Fisher Houses provide a "home-away-from-home" for service members and their families while a loved one is hospitalized at the military's major medical centers. Your donation of Prepaid Card(s) will enable Fisher House to ease the burden for military personnel and their families at a most stressful time in their lives. SAILORS, MARINES AND THEIR FAMILIES IN TIME OF NEED The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a unique, non-profit, private, charitable organization that supports America's Sailors, Marines and their families in time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs. The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is in an excellent position to identify individuals who have the greatest need for these prepaid telephone cards. Cheers. IP: Logged |

Thanks proxiemePractical help is always best. A 550 minute global calling card for $39 is only 7 cents a minute. Pretty good deal. Though it ticks me off the military isn't supplying phone service---limited service, at least once a week for those deployed to call home. IP: Logged |

As the wife of an Active Duty Marine that was deployed to Iraq, I thank you for this thread. It is so heard to have communication when the money is so tight and the mail service is slower than the pony express.I hope that others take this to heart and take the time to help. IP: Logged |
