I apologize for what may seem like a cop-out, but it has to be done. Reading and replying to threads like 'Cold Turkey' and 'Know Thy Enemy' takes up too much of my time and leaves me feeling ill. (Well, Cold Turkey made me feel goos at first...) It will take great willpower for this to walk away from a debate, but I need my energy for other things, and my energy level is very dependent on my emotional state. It frustrates me that some people are so dangerously blind to the obvious.

Some people spend a lot of time reading, thinking, and writing about Politics. I do not. jwhop, you know more specific facts about what happens on Capitol Hill than I do. Bully for you. It seems like a waste of time to me.

Some people refuse to see the writing on the wall. Maybe they need to feel secure, to the exclusion of clear perception. But it is all too clear to me.

If/when the worst happens, I will be handing out a lot of "I told you so's".

Politics is crap, and arguing about politics is worse.

Paras out.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short..."

paras, I know how you feel.
I and others around here have come to the same conclusion at various different times here in GU.

I find it amazing that such a miniscule proportion of the population here that isn't liberal (to one degree or another) can affect you folks so much. I know from other sites that deal w/ metaphysical subjects, that liberals to whatever extreme abound, so you're probably not used to having people disagree with you, or disagree with you with the ability to back it up with facts.

Personally, if I wanted mental masturbation I would go to a republican website where everyone just agrees with one another. How boring. You never get anything new. You need differing, sometimes even opposing ideas to make headway on crucial issues.

If one's mind is already made up that one sees the "clear way", then one's mind isn't open to new ideas. My Dad used to say that it's the person who claims to have all the answers that usually knows the least.

But I understand that debate can get trying, sometimes even downright draining, and when it gets to that point, it's just not worth it IMO.

Or, perhaps, my definition of "debate" does not include the exchange of irrelevant personal insults.

And I do hope you are not implying that I think I know all the answers, or that I am not open to new ideas. I could only greatly resent such an erroneous implication.

I do not claim to have any answers. But I do know all the right questions. They all begin with "WHY?"

P.S.: I have instructed those closest to me to remove my fingers if I ever again succumb to the temptation to peek at the GU forum.

Paras, You said: "And I do hope you are not implying that I think I know all the answers, or that I am not open to new ideas. I could only greatly resent such an erroneous implication.

I am confused by this statement because you started this string with:

quote:

Some people refuse to see the writing on the wall. Maybe they need to feel secure, to the exclusion of clear perception. But it is all too clear to me.

If/when the worst happens, I will be handing out a lot of "I told you so's".

Would you please explain this contradiction?
