Ashcroft: Berger 9/11 Docs Reveal Clinton Security Lapse

A sensitive after-action report on the foiled Millennium bomb plot, portions of which allegedly were pilfered by former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, sounded the alarm that al-Qaida operatives had entered the U.S. and were preparing to strike.

In testimony before the 9/11 Commission in April, Attorney General John Ashcroft detailed the highly classified March 2000 document, saying it contained a set of sweeping recommendations on how to combat the al-Qaida threat that were completely ignored by the Clinton White House......

Kuby: Berger's 9/11 Paper Pilfer No Accident

Noted civil rights attorney and regular defender of the Clinton administration Ron Kuby said Tuesday that it's hard to believe former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger took top secret terrorism documents from a 9/11 Commission reading room by accident.

"Nobody, nobody inadvertently picks up classified information and walks out with it. It isn't done," Kuby told his WABC Radio partner Curtis Sliwa.

The scandal-plagued paper has buried the day's big news, about Sandy "Light Fingers" Berger, at the bottom of Page A16 in a seven-paragraph wire story. This unpleasant reality isn't even mentioned on the front page, though there was room to promote such "urgent" hard news as "Two Campaigns, Two Visions."..............

WSJ: Berger Took Secret 9/11 Docs on Five Occasions

Kerry campaign adviser Sandy Berger removed secret terrorism documents from a 9/11 Commission reading room on no fewer than five occasions, his lawyer Lanny Breuer admitted late Monday night.

Breuer told the Wall Street Journal that his client, who served previously as the Clinton administration's national security adviser, inadvertently removed several copies of an after-action report on the foiled 1999 Millennium bomb plot during two separate visits to the top secret facility.......

Clinton Adviser Probed in Terror Memos
NewsMax Wires
Tuesday, July 20, 2004

WASHINGTON - President Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger, is the focus of a criminal investigation after removing highly classified terrorism documents and handwritten notes from a secure reading room during preparations for the Sept. 11 commission hearings, The Associated Press has learned.

Berger's home and office were searched earlier this year by FBI agents armed with warrants after he voluntarily returned documents to the National Archives.

However, some drafts of a sensitive after-action report on the Clinton administration's handling of al-Qaida terror threats during the December 1999 millennium celebration are still missing........

Hmmm, where is the Hue and Cry about this act treason? It will be interesting to see where this path leads, but what will be more interesting how the mass media will cover this story in the back of their "living" section so no one really gets to see it.

Thank God for cable

Sandy "Burgler" funny

Seriously though, this isn't funny at all. Very scary. I suppose this sort of thing happens all the time and we just don't hear about it. The surprise is that he was caught.

Rainbow, one of those stories quoted Ashcroft's 9/11 Commission testimony extensively. One was a NewsMax story, one was a Wall Street Journal story and one was an AP story.

Is that enough variety for you? I would have linked you to the NY Times story about the event but evidently, the NY Times doesn't consider a story about the former National Security Advisor making off with classified documents newsworthy.

Well, this is pretty serious business, in that those documents carry one of the highest classified ratings. In those after action reports are details about how the US detected the attempted attack and possibly the source of the information along with recommendations of further actions to thwart future attacks.

Those documents were said to have simply disappeared, off Berger's desk, from his home, car or wherever he was holding them. No National Security Advisor mistakenly throws away classified documents. Really makes me wonder what was in those documents that Berger didn't want revealed to the 9/11 commission or declassified and released to the public domain.

Burger is red hot right now, radioactive and instead of standing by Berger, as the Kerry Campaign stated earlier today, Kerry flip-flopped again and Berger has gotten the bums rush, though it's being characterized as Berger standing down from Kerry's campaign until the dust settles. A compulsory, voluntary resignation

Of course if it was you, or me, we'd be in custody and under interrogation by now.

Berger's Top Secret BVDs - Kerry Caught in Security Flap
Charles R. Smith
Thursday, July 22, 2004
There is an old proverb that reads, "Anything important should go in your pants." Unfortunately, former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger took this truism beyond its intended meaning.

Berger stands accused of stuffing his pants and socks with classified materials smuggled out of the National Achieves. Berger reportedly was examining a TOP SECRET - with code word - report on terrorism complied in the waning days of the Clinton administration.

Story Continues Below

Berger's mission was to assist Bill Clinton in his testimony before the 9/11 Commission by reviewing the documents. Instead, he now resembles a common shoplifter pirating CDs into his oversized pants on a cheap surveillance video camera.

Despite the denials by Berger and his attorney, Achieves staff caught the prominent advisor taking highly classified materials not once but twice. The second time the FBI got involved, searching Berger's home and office............ http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/7/22/142739.shtml
