Dukakis II: The Photo Kerry Regrets

Woke up this morning, I was feeling quite weird
Had flies in my beard, my toothpaste was smeared
Over my window, they'd written my name
Said, so long, we'll see you again
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride
- From The Byrds' "Mr. Spaceman"

What was he thinking? Or was he thinking? Did John Kerry forget how that widely ridiculed photo opportunity in the Army tank deflated the presidential campaign of his mentor Michael Dukakis?

That's not nice. I wonder how long the camera was focussed on him, waiting for him to do something that could be laughed at and exploited by his detractors.

Ohhh. Look! He picked his nose! I guess he's really NOT presidential material afterall. Can't have a president being HUMAN, afterall. (of course, nobody HERE has ever done that, right?)

And the John Kerry pic? That safety clothing is likely mandatory, and he wasn't given a choice. He was told "If you wanna go in, you have to wear this". So, it wouldn't be nice to make fun of that eithor.

Take it easy lioneye
It's just funny to see your pres. with his finger('s) up his nose. He should expect to be made fun of - it comes with the job. And with him it's all too easy.

John Kerry just looks like a complete goof-ball. It's kind of cute.

Lioneye.....it's nice of you to come to our president's defense........but don't you think picking one's nose (if necessary) should be done in private......especially if you're the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES???

Love,
Rainbow

Ps...nice of you to notice that "making fun" of Kerry via ridiculous photos isn't nice either. (Hear that jwhop? Lioneye thinks what you did wasn't very nice..)But she's gotta love ya...

Well, I can see you ladies don't know anything about baseball. That's W sitting in the 3rd base box seats when he ran the Texas Rangers. He's giving the signals to a hitter and a runner on 3rd base while the opposing team is watching the 3rd base coach thinking he's the one giving signals.

Even then, W was way ahead of the competition.

This is the signal.

Forefinger to the nose signals the hitter to bunt.

Little finger to the nose signals the hitter and runner it's a suicide bunt.

Right hand wipe across the face signals the hitter to lay the bunt down the 1st base line, i.e., the right field side.

Makes perfect sense to me because even if the 1st baseman fields the ball cleanly and might have a play at the plate, the ball is coming from the right side of the field forcing the catcher to turn his body and attention away from the runner who is coming from the left side. Additionally, it forces the 1st baseman to charge towards the plate to field the ball because with a runner coming from 3rd base, the catcher can't field the ball or a run will score. With the 1st baseman charging in, he can't cover 1st base and if he doesn't have a play at the plate, he's probably charged right by the hitter who is flying by him up the 1st baseline. If the pitcher or 2nd baseman don't react immediately to cover 1st base, not only did W's team score a run, they also have another runner on 1st base.

See, most things have a simple explanation.

Now, watch the clip again and it will all be clear to you

Lioneye, that's Kerry at Cape Canaveral, one of the launch sites for the US space program NASA. Kerry didn't have to don a contamination suit to tour Cape Canaveral or enter any of the facilities there. He did it for a photo opp.

Rainbow,
Is that George Bush? And with that good upbringing. class

If you want to talk about John Kerrys chart its a powerhouse. (look it up at Lois Roddens website) hes a full moon birth (powerhouse aspect) conjunct the asc. This man is going places. Saturn and Pluto (and pluto is getting to reap) says hes paid his dues. Neptune makes a nice aspect to this stellium. And what is Neptune? Its the image/facade we want to project. John Edwards chart is not as strong but (he has sun conjunct mars, so no crybaby) They are beautifully compatable and that will work in favor. No they're not gay, but they work good together.

Lalalinda........

Yup! That's Dubya.....George Dubya Bush! Just a digging for the gold!

I couldn't resist posting it, most especially after jwhop tried to make a "big deal" about Kerry in the space suit! The Republicans are "really digging" if that's all they have to offer in order to ridicule
Kerry....sheese....

Have never been to Lois Rodden's website that I remember, but I'll try to get there...Would like to see what else she has to say about Kerry...

Thanks for the info.....

Love,
Rainbow

Well, I can see why Kerry would want to separate himself from his former boss, the war mongering hardliner Michael Dukakis.
Ummm, Uncle Sam wants YOU!

Which only proves that all photo opps are not equal. Personally, if I were Kerry, I would have gone to the North Pole, dressed myself in a Santa Clause suit and surrounded myself with Elves.

You don't get it Rainbow?

OK, like Ricky to Lucy, I splain it to you.

At the time Dukakis decided to climb in that tank, don a helmet and have a photo opp, he was leading George H. W. Bush by about 15 points in the polls before the 1988 election.

Dukakis was anti war, soft on crime, soft on everything in fact, everyone in the world knew it and that photo made Dukakis a laughing stock all over America. Dukakis trying to show some *alls he didn't have.

That photo of Dukakis appeared in every major paper in the US, on every network news show and in articles in most of the major news magazines.

Dukakis went on to lose the election in a landslide to Bush. He looked like a phony, made himself a laughing stock and lost.

There's Kerry dressed in a NASA astronaut clean suit with a goofy smile on his face climbing out of the airlock. Again, a staged event for a photo opp. It may look cute to you but one thing a politician cannot survive is the voters laughing at him instead of with him.

If you say so Lucy but as I recall and I do recall very well, the sailors on that carrier erupted into cheers that were probably heard in San Diego when W climbed out of that plane and walked across the flight deck.

Did you know W flew that plane between the mainland of California and the Carrier? I'm sure the Secret Service agents on board almost had a heart attack But, W was used to flying something a whole lot harder to fly than that little puddle jumper. The Delta Dart he flew in the Air National Guard was nicknamed the "flying coffin". They were tricky, unforgiving and close to unstable.

hehehe, somehow I don't think you were laughing Lucy. I think it was something
else.

Republicans Try To
Ridicule Kerry
With NASA Photo

By Patricia Wilson
7-27-4

NORFOLK, Va. (Reuters) -- Republicans distributed a photo of Democratic candidate John Kerry wearing a head-to-toe protective suit on Tuesday in comparison to a famously unflattering photograph of Michael Dukakis in a tank that helped sink his presidential bid in 1988.

Late-night comedians made fun of the picture and President Bush's re-election campaign e-mailed it under the caption "Earth to Kerry." "Bubble Boy," read the headline on the front page of the Boston Herald, a newspaper that has not been a supporter of Kerry.

The photograph was taken on Monday at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, when Kerry along with astronauts-turned-U.S. senators John Glenn of Ohio and Bill Nelson of Florida were required by NASA to wear the precautionary suits to tour the "Discovery" shuttle due to launch in March.

To enter the orbiter and the cockpit area where commanders sit, Kerry, Glenn and Nelson had to go through a "white room," and don the special suits. Media cameras were not allowed in, but NASA later released its own photographs.

Dukakis, the former Democratic governor of Massachusetts who was soundly beaten by Bush's father in the 1988 presidential election, held a photo opportunity riding in the tank to bolster a strong-on-defense image during his campaign.

The picture of the large tank with Dukakis' helmeted head sticking out of the gun turret was the butt of many jokes.

The Kerry campaign drew its own parallel of the space suit picture with Bush's May 1, 2003, landing on an aircraft carrier in a flight suit to declare an end to combat operations in Iraq in front of a banner reading "Mission Accomplished." More than 750 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since that day and U.S. forces are plagued by violence.

"My hunch is that the brilliant Republicans who put George Bush in a flight suit to strut around an aircraft carrier won't get very far giving advice to NASA and John Glenn about the kinds of coveralls to wear on the Discovery," Kerry spokesman David Wade said of the first American to orbit earth.

"Standing with an American hero, Senator John Glenn, aboard the Discovery which returned him to space is a memory to last a lifetime," he said.

"The Republicans ought to be more worried that Americans keep telling George Bush, 'Houston, we have a problem,"' he added, referring to a famous communication between Apollo 13 and mission control during its troubled mission.

Kerry, a four-term senator from Massachusetts and decorated Vietnam War veteran, stopped in Norfolk, home to the world largest Navy base, on his way to Boston to accept the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday.

Love,
Rainbow
