Introduction to the Seville Statement on Violence
The same species that invented war is capable of inventing peace. This is the conclusion of the Seville Statement on Violence, drafted by leading scientists from around the world during the UN International Year for Peace in 1986. The scientific arguments are based on evolution, genetics, animal behavior, brain research and social psychology.

The Seville Statement on Violence is already available on the Internet. Click (here for a copy. I have added here a history of the statement, entitled The Seville Statement on Violence: A Progress Report, along with a scientific study showing its importance: The Myth That War Is Intrinsic to Human Nature Discourages Action for Peace by Young People.

The Seville Statement on Violence continues to be used for peace education throughout the world. Recognizing the importance of this work, a newsletter is being issued several times a year. Online editions of the newsletter are now available here for the issues of November 2002 and March 2003.
