Paras/Jwhop:Here is the perfect opportunity to address each other's grievances. Perhaps you will be able to come to some sort of amicable, or at the very least, civil, arrangement. Argue/debate if you must. I only ask that you restrict your engagements to this thread alone. I would respectfully request all posters other than jwhop and paras to treat this as a "read only" thread. Many thanks, all. IP: Logged |

Wow! A string devoted to an actual purpose -- with actual intention of resolution -- and an attempt to preclude its going off on irrelevant tangents. Is this my early birthday present or somethin', Quiksilver? <Settles into a comfortable chair with a good book to wait for jwhop to show up... but not holding his breath...> IP: Logged |

What would you like to discuss paras? I gave you some choices, would you prefer anarchy?Perhaps you could reiterate once again how much you would enjoy seeing two-thirds of the earth's population perish. IP: Logged |

Sure, I'll reply to that. But first I want to make something clear. Neither of us is stupid, or lacking in common sense. Let's agree not to play games of spin and rhetoric, okay? Let's be literal and straightforward. I think that's the only way anything positive will be accomplished here.If you go back to the string in which I made that statement, and read further, I explained the reasoning for that statement quite clearly. It was a mistake I made, I readily admit that. I was not at all serious, and posted that from an emotional rather than logical frame of mind... always a bad idea. It was a jab, jwhop, to put it simply. Surely you don't think I would honestly like to see that happen? I can tell you I find myself quite worried over the thought of "the bomb falling at any moment" sometimes. Because it could happen. And I don't think if "the button" is ever pressed, that it can be un-pressed. IP: Logged |

You know, it isn't my intention to demonize you, or hate you, jwhop. I don't hate you. I simply want to break through that indomitable ego of yours and wake you up to the atmosphere you have created in the GU forum. I well understand the joy of pulling mental jujitsu on other people, especially when they're being ignorant and just really seem to deserve it. I just think you indulge in that pleasure a bit too often, and in an inappropriate place. Other political discussion boards on the web, I am sure, have no such high ideals as does Linda-Goodman.com, and you don't see me visiting them, do you? Linda means the world to me, and anything unkind, uncharitable, and hurtful just doesn't mix well with her in my mind. All I want is for you to be nice, at least here on this site. How you sharpen your claws on oher people, in other places, is of no concern to me. But many sensitive souls gather here, and sometimes you make them feel belittled and unwelcome. Be the bigger man. Ignore the gnats buzzing around your head. Be nice.IP: Logged |

Ah, so concern for the other members of Lindaland is simply swapping spit to you?We can debate all you'd like, on any topic you'd like (except U.S. politics, please -- do you ever get tired of it? does your train of thought ever switch tracks?) -- but that's not the main reason I called you out. People can change, opinions can change. Mine, certainly. But from what I've seen so far, you seem to form an impression of something, create a label for it, and then write it across that person or thing in indelible ink. (Of course, I could be wrong.) I think that kind of mental inflexibility is unrealistic and hazardous. I don't think it's healthy to force the world into one's personal categories and viewpoint, rather one should fit one's thinking to the specific realities at hand. I also think that lumping large numbers of people into groups in one's mind is unrealistic -- people are very much individuals, and I prefer to take each one as he or she comes. What do you think?
