So, is the the law of intended consequences in operation?

O'Reilly's Ratings Skyrocket

If the intent of Fox News Channel producer Andrea Mackris' sexual harassment lawsuit was to ruin Bill O'Reilly and his network, it doesn't seem to be working.

In fact, rather than deserting O'Reilly, his viewers are tuning in, in droves.

"The O'Reilly Factor" averaged 3.2 million viewers per night for the first three nights after the suit was announced, reports the New York Post.
That's a 34 percent increase over the TV talker's ratings for last quarter.

Among older viewers, who might be expected to be offended by the controversy, O'Reilly is doing even better. Nielsen ratings show a 42 percent improvement among adults ages 25-54, who may be having trouble buying Mackris' claim that she was "forced" to have phone sex with the cable star.

While the publicity over Mackris' accusations no doubt accounts for some of the increase, the solid numbers show that the scandal may have ultimately backfired on O'Reilly's enemies.

Did it ever occur to you that his audience skyrocketed because a lot of people who didn't know who he was, tuned in to get a look at this jerk?

No, that never occurred to me. Is that the causative agent you ascribe to O'Reilly rocketing ratings?

I think O'Reilly's audience is somewhat different from the jerk Howard Sterns.

O'Reilly told everyone it was all a lie and you all believed him. Right? hee hee

Gee jwhop, if Newmax said his ratings went up it must be true.

That WAS the Howard Stern audience that sent the ratings up. Any mention of the word sex and they are drawn to the source.

Howard Stern got into this conversation because the subject of Jerks came up and I figured that even though Kerry spends more time in front of a television camera, Stern should get at least an honorable mention.

Oh I get it now....

A Howard Stern type audience would naturally tune into the O'Reilly Factor to get a look at another pervert...(altho in disguise), whom they've just heard about (since that is how their minds run)....thereby increasing O'Reilly's audience....

But I think I said something like that in the first place....

Someone say sex?

I listen to Howard Stern, prolly a few times a week. I wouldn't turn on O'Reilly for money.

I don't always agree with what he has to say... but none-the-less ... he makes me LMAO

See Rainbow, people who tune in Howard Stearn are not O'Reilly types. Thanks LS for helping make my point.

So Rainbow, it seems you don't get it at all.

On the contrary, Jwhop....they ARE O'Reilly types (but didn't know it, believing O'Reilly to be a anal retentive type prude)...but once the press blew the whistle on him..they wanted to check out this hyprocrite...so his audience grew....You're the one who's not getting it...

Rainbow

I read that this Andrea chick who is making the accusations is like a hundred thou in debt and was bragging around the office that she was gonna make O'Reilly pay for new digs in Manhattan she was eyeing up. See, now even if she is telling the straight truth she still looks bad. Not helpin' the cause at all. Not at all.....

I don't know if she's telling the truth or not. I have nothing invested in Bill O'Reilly's reputation. If he's guilty, let a jury throw the book at him with a judgment he will never forget.

On the other hand, if there was something going on between O'Reilly and Andrea Mackris I hope O'Reilly's wife takes him to the cleaners in a divorce proceeding.

There is something especially appalling about that kind of betrayal and I'm not the hypocrite who would condemn Clinton and condone the same behavior for O'Reilly.

Perhaps the tapes...if there are tapes will tell the story.
