Blondes ain't laughing

Hungary - Blonde jokes are set to be banned in Hungary after blonde women staged an angry protest outside parliament.

The protestors handed in a petition claiming they were being discriminated against in every walk of life by bad taste blonde jokes.

Spokesperson Zsuzsa Kovacs said: "Blondes face discrimination in the job market, in the workplace when they get a job, and even on the streets.

"People are banned from discriminating against Jews, or blacks, so why not grant blondes the same protection."

The petition was handed to the equal opportunities minister Kinga Goncz asking her to investigate whether jokes about blondes fall into the same category as religious discrimination.

The petition was just short of the 100 000 needed to force parliament to debate the matter but Goncz's deputy who spoke to the crowd pledged the government would act to stop any discrimination.

Blondes - real and bleached - protested outside the ministry as the petition was handed in, waving banners with slogans like "We're blonde, not stupid" and "Love us for our minds". -

Only a blonde would make such an outlandish assertion.

LOL LS. That pic would be even funnier if a thick 500 page manual for it was sitting right next to it.

For some reason, it rather offended me that all of you were so disdainful of a law petitioned for by Hungarian citizens and passed by the Hungarian Parliament. Personally, I do not think blondes need to be protected from blonde jokes, just as violists do not need to be protected from viola jokes. But if the Blondes of Hungary feel strongly enough about anti-blonde discrimination to have Parliament pass a law protecting them, well then, maybe it's a legitimate issue for them. So stop making fun of it. None of you have any idea what you're talking about, as none of you live in Hungary.

Dang right, amigo, I'm Irish and I'm 'piping up'.

Gotta say, I am oh so curious to hear how it relates to communism. It's much more like democracy, actually. So technically it could happen here.

It was a joke kids.

Blonde woman have nothing to do with communism. In fact, I 'm going to guess that most communist females have brown hair. Politically correct thinking annoys me. Politically correct laws annoy me even more. Politically correct stuff reeks of the nastier elements of Stalinist-type communism. And before anybody gets on my case about that ... I sympathize a bit with Lenin and I admit to a certain affection for Trotsky (I think it was the hair).

Are you two blonde?

Hair color is not a protected class; nor should it be.

Exactly my point. The whole notion of a "protected class" makes me woozy.

"Hair color is not a protected class; nor should it be." -Randall

It's easy for you to say, Randall, being a member of the dark-haired majority. I realize this discussion is fairly silly, but the fact remains that the Hungarian Parliament saw fit to pass a law protecting blondes.

Randall, your statement 'Hair color is not a protected class' is false. In Hungary, certain kinds of hair color are protected.

[And no, I'm not blonde, well not technically, more of a strawberry-blonde-light-brown. I am argumentative.]

And then the redheads will follow, and so on and so forth. A true example of Liberalism at work.

A true example of the scales tipping to far in one direction, and things getting goofy as a result. Liberalism and Conservatism need each other.

Randall, I don't understand why you think this kind of legislation is so awful, and why you are intent on pinning it on liberalism. Are you especially attached to your blonde- and redhead- jokes? Do you take a particular pleasure in making fun of hair color? If you do it's no fault, I suppose I've told blonde jokes. It just seems as if you're up on a soapbox here. That law has little to do with liberalism and everything to do with the will of Hungary's citizens.

Liberals think they can solve all the world's ills through legislation, but often only focus on the small picture (even though they talk on a grand scale in vague generalities). It's an example of their myopic reasoning. If you see nothing wrong with this, I certainly can't convince you otherwise. By the way, why can't blondes dial 911? They can't find the 11 key on the phone.

What about all the bald guys??!! They don't even have any hair! I wouldn't be surprised if they petition next! What a joke. (Literally). Unfortunately for the blondes, they've only succeeded in opening the door for a whole new series of laughs at their expense!
