...and its ties (or not) to modern Islamic Fundamentalism: http://apnews.excite.com/article/20050514/D8A325880.html The very last sentence is striking. IP: Logged |

Gee, that's comforting. Thanks.I'm going to go out on a politically incorrect limb here and say that the current state of Islam scares the (hee hee) bejesus out of me(see I do have a sense of humor). I'm not trying to single them out - the Inquisition and witch hunting years of Christiandom inspire the same uncomfortable feelings and I occasionally lose sleep over the Republican religious right crowd. Proxieme, you seem a much more thoughtful, much less reactionary sort than me. What do you think? IP: Logged |

I think that the very last statement of the article sums it up:The Brotherhood "pretends they are within the system," said Riffat El-Said, head of the leftist Tagammu party in Egypt. "But they didn't get rid of their violent theory; their poisoned Islamized way of thinking. ... In Germany it was known as Nazis. It was known in Italy as Fascists. It's known in Egypt as trying to find the road of Allah." d if you assume that "The Brotherhood" isn't really deradicalized and use it as a proxy for all Fundamentalism. It's a creed that holds Exceptionalism of Its Ideas and Way of Life at its core - and, by God (pun intended...?), if we're exceptional, we better do all that we can to make sure that we come out on top..we wouldn't actually being doing it, after all: It's the Will of God/The Culmination of Human History/etc. Gah, there was something else that I wanted to say, but I forgot it when Meg grew tired of her toy, came over, and tapped on my leg. Now she's being a crazy lap monkey. But, really TINK - your thoughts usually strike me with their insight. IP: Logged |

usually?just kidding Hello, my name is tink and I am a knee-jerk reactionary. I really can't even claim to be a recovering knee-jerk reactionary because there is a deep, dark, secret corner of my soul that enjoys being a knee-jerk reactinary. There. I said it. Now everyone knows. quote: It's a creed that holds Exceptionalism of Its Ideas and Way of Life at its core - and, by God (pun intended...?), if we're exceptional, we better do all that we can to make sure that we come out on top..we wouldn't actually being doing it, after all: It's the Will of God/The Culmination of Human History/etc.
*shivers* Now that sums it up quite well. After a very rudimentary - very rudimentary - study of Islam, I find a large pile of difficult contradictions. I figured I'd go for the Big Prize first and tackle this Jihad stuff. Not too bright, huh? I won't bore you with the messy details but basically what I'm saying is I've scared myself silly and your little article came right on time. If you think of that other thing, please feel free to mention it.

the ringleader of the 911 attacks, mohamed atta, and some of the other hijackers were egyptian... atta worked for an engineering syndicate connected to the muslim brotherhood, but claimed not to be a member....egypt has been one of the closest middle east allies and largest recipients of u.s. military aid for the last 25 years.....
