KATHMANDU, July 27: Former U.S. Senator Thomas Daschle has stressed on the need of unity between leaders of the political parties in order to resolve the crisis facing Nepal.Speaking at a press conference organised at the end of his weeklong visit here today, Daschle said the political parties and the Monarch should reconcile in order to resolve the terrorist problem.
The political parties have to shun partisan interests in the interest of the Nepali people, he said.
He said the political parties should improve their work efficiency, exhibit alertness before the people against corruption and express commitment in public to reform their respective party, establish internal democracy, transparency and accountability within the party and wipe out corruption at all levels in the party.
Nepal’s economic progress and democratic institutions have been badly hit by the Maoist terror, the former Senator said and urged the Maoist to shun violence and joint the political mainstream. Responding to a query, Daschle said he found His Majesty the King with an encouraging commitment to democracy.
