I don't think it will help anything, but I'm completely fine with her doing whatever the heck she wants.IP: Logged |

Sure, she's justified in doing whatever she wants... and I'm justified in being irked at this given her comments on a recent 60 Minutes story regarding her stance on the Iraq War and that, somehow, this upcoming tour seems more like a grandstanding publicity stunt than actual, thoughtful protest.

I agree with you Proxie. I was just answering the question of how I feel about it. I don't feel very strongly about it.IP: Logged |

I'd have to find the transcript, but I think it was something to the effect of the Iraq War being a "different situation" than that of Vietnam when asked what she thought would happen if a contemporary young actress acted comparably to the former with the former. (What a confusing sentence...to tired to change it.) I seem to remember her saying something to the effect of she wouldn't advocate protesting the Iraq War as she did Vietnam - but if someone comes up with a transcript saying otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised. For me, the big thing is that she's such a *hittable public figure* in this arena that she'll really be doing a disservice to the cause which she's going to trumpet, a not entirely unworthy cause in my opinion. That strikes me as unfortunate. IP: Logged |

Thanks. I'll look for the transcript.Poor Janey. All these Hollywood celebrities are probably well-intentioned but what a bunch of goofs. And easily manipulated it seems. IP: Logged |

It's not that, MG - it's more that she's such a lightening rod that she really will do more harm than good for any peace effort.Godspeed to her in her efforts - and you can't fault her for using a vege oil bus (those are so flippin' cool ), but this'll just be more ammo for the crazies on Fox, et al. It's not that at all, MG - how much do you know about her role during the Vietnam War (and of people's reactions to it)?My (and some others) concern is that her simply being involved will close many minds that might have otherwise been more receptive. There is quite a bit of animosity in some segments of the population (segments larger than many in large, metropolitan areas would like to think) still held towards her. IP: Logged |

Not many celebrities will even do what she is at least doing. Heck not even the f***** president would give a f***.
