I've seen them. They are not that degrading. The worst one has Muhammad with a bomb for a turbin. How is that a shock to Muslim people? What else have they demonstrated? What have the peacefull ones done to correct the extremists? I see no effort in that direction. Maybe I'm uninformed.

But...I don't get it. The outrage, that is. That's all.

PS why the heck would you care what us infidels think? Get over yourselves.

It's sad, but I know that nobody will reply to this thread. We're not allowed to talk about how dogmatic some Muslims are. Because they will f-ing kill you if you even suggest that they should regroup and get a new perspective. They are on a mission to take over the world...By force... Far be it from me to suggest that they are not qualified to rule the world. I'm just a woman, after all.
In fact, I'm probably on a death list now. Oh well. What can you do?

Does anyone else dare to speak?

Lioneye
hi, give people some time... I'm sure there are others who don't sit behind the computer everyday...

Speaking of fuss... Did yo hear that Danish Moslems *added* few cartoons by themselves to the copies of cartoons they distributed among islamic countries? Just for bit more fire.

It's a question of culture, more than anything else.

For example, the Thai people would react just as violently to something like this if it were their king depicted in these cartoons.

Islam is what the entire culture of the Middle East. With everything going on and all the anti-muslim sentiment rolling around the world, in my opinion, these cartoons were the 'straw that broke the camel's back', so to speak. They felt like 'the west' were thumbing their noses at them yet again, and so... they went... ballistic.

A little over the top? Maybe. But psychologically, this was motivated by a lot more than the cartoons, I think. The cartoons just triggered the outburst.

Calm yourself, lioneye. There's more than one thread on this subject in GU.

Despite the chance of being called a f-ing pussy, I don't think anyone here is afraid to speak.

They are not that degrading. The worst one has Muhammad with a bomb for a turbin. How is that a shock to Muslim people?
-------

Its degrading becuase Muhammad is not supposed to be depicted in their religion —
as I understand it (Im not a muslim) — because it is considered an insult towards him. Obviously putting a bomb in his turban is insulting because it signifies that the whole religion is based on blowing people up, (i.e. that is what Muhammed teaches) which is not true.

-----
What else have they demonstrated? What have the peacefull ones done to correct the extremists? I see no effort in that direction.
----

there are billions of muslims that live totally peacefully in the world. Extremists exist in a minority and EVERY religion has them, including christians, hindus, jews, even buddhists.

Its not possible to "correct" the extremists since they wont listen anyway. Many muslims have condemned the actions of the fanatics and try to distance themselves from them - at the end of the day, what else can you do with them? The best you can do is distance yourself. The extremeists will do what they want and do it in the name of Islam, which is an insult to other (ordinary) muslims.

simply putting it...religion is not a joke,it is a very sensitive issue and something people are very VERY passionate about, and using a god for a cartoon IS pretty demeaning, regardless of the actual graphic.....It was a pretty sick joke...

P.S:I am a hindu,not a muslim...

Thank you, to all who replied, You're not f'ing pussies lol. I may have tipped a few back last night, and I can get that way sometimes.

I understand why Muslims don't appreciate those cartoons, but offering a million dollars and a new car to whoever kills the cartoonist?????? That's just reinforcing the violent impression westerners have of them. Violent, and taking themselves all together TOO SERIOUSLY. They really need to lighten up. Lives depend on it.

I am not a muslim, but I dont think it is a responsible act to draw cartoons on sensitive topics like this. In my state (in India)a few dramas degrading Jesus's relationship with magdalena mariam were banned.
We can say an artist has the freedom to portrait whatever she/he wants.
But there are limits to freedom when it hurts religious beliefs.

Maybe in your reality, SweetLibra, but not in mine.

Any religious belief weak enough to be hurt by some else practicing their God-given freedom is absolutely worthless.

Dont misunderstand me johnny. I laugh at mentions of lord krishna as a womanizer. But then I am at the crossroads of whether to believe a formless God or one who flirts with women
I talked from the perspective of those who cant take criticism.
If we know that there are such people, there is no problem being a little considerate to them. It only will make you greater than what you can be

Let's see how long it can last in FFA...

I would like to say tho... If fanatical people would stop trying to force their religion down the throats of people who just want them to STFU, this world would be a much better place all around.
