So, another little leftist pipedream goes up in smoke.

The absurd notion an institution can take federal money and ban the federal government from the premises has been punctured by the US Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Backs Campus Military Recruiters

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday that colleges that accept federal money must allow military recruiters on campus, despite university objections to the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays.

Justices rejected a free-speech challenge from law school professors who claimed they should not be forced to associate with military recruiters or promote their campus appearances.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the decision, which was unanimous.

Law schools had become the latest battleground over the "don't ask, don't tell" policy allowing gay men and women to serve in the military only if they keep their sexual orientation to themselves.

Many universities forbid the participation of recruiters from public agencies and private companies that have discriminatory policies.

Roberts, writing his third decision since joining the court, said there are other less drastic options to protest the policy.

"A military recruiter's mere presence on campus does not violate a law school's right to associate, regardless of how repugnant the law school considers the recruiter's message," he wrote.

The federal law, known as the Solomon Amendment after its first congressional sponsor, mandates that universities give the military the same access as other recruiters or forfeit federal money.

College leaders have said they could not afford to lose federal help, some $35 billion a year.

Obviously I don't like the military..but hey, it's a free country..

Killing is wrong..and humans can make up whatever excuse they want..each person had an indiviual choice to fight in a war..know when there is draft..well, then you are asking a person to go against God's Universal Laws..and in this..there will be karma..on both..
each indiviual; is responsible for what he or she does..

you can wrap it in something like we have to fight for our Rights..but there is a way to do it..and it is obvioulsy not working the way we have been doing it..

and another country's karma..is their Karma..
unless they ask for help..and each repesentative from them..and their government is responsible for their own..til we smarten up, and become

ONE UNITED WORLD UNDER GOD..

Jwhop

I grew up a military brat and for the most part of my step-fathers career he was a drill SSG (not fun for teenagers ) but at the end of his career he became a recruiter.

For the most part I think the military should be able to recruit from high schools and college (there are some people that thrive in the military) but as my step-father pointed out time and time again "promise them anything" just get that signature and straighten out the details later. I always felt this to be dishonest (and so did he). If young adults are going to commit x amount of years to the military, they deserve to know the truth.

think Pvt. Benjamin (and everything her recruiter promised her )

Yeah lalalinda, but look at all the fun Pvt. Benjamin had Still, I agree with you and your stepfather; kids should be told the truth.

There are all kinds of career opportunities in the military...many in the professions, from legal to the sciences. Not everyone is going to tote an M-16 but I think that's the impression most people have.

Any school that's too good to let the military recruit on campus is just too damned good to receive federal aid to education and they can educate their kids on their own dime.

So, what time was reveille at your place? You didn't let your stepfather recruit you, did you? I can see how having a Drill SSG around the house could crimp the style of a teenager....not to mention her dates.

I don't think I mind them at colleges, but I hate seeing them at highschools. That's a bit too young for my taste. I've seen the "promise them anything" philosophy, and it stinks. It's a dishonorable act from what should be the most honorable group of people in the land. The commercials alone are enough to make me sick. See the world, learn discipline, earn money for college, learn a skill, blah blah blah. I can just see the ad execs hovering around the boardroom trying to sell it.

Poor lalalinda
