I've been face to face with a deep coma and the decision the ones left behind must make, jwhop. It's not an easy or simple one. When discussing "Life" the state and processes of the Spirit, not only the body, must be taken into consideration.IP: Logged |

I am not willing to turn the power over to government to determine which INNOCENT people have the right to life and which don't.I'm not willing to turn the power over to the courts/judges to set standards for a "sufficient quality of life" to keep people who are innocent of any wrongdoing alive. I'm not willing to turn the power over to doctors, lawyers, nursing home administrators OR relatives to determine what constitutes "sufficient quality of life" to keep a person alive. I'm not willing to turn the power over to ANYONE to make value judgments on termination of innocent life based on "quality of life", costs, convenience or inconvenience or any other reason. Every step down that road brings us closer to the day a multitude of different reasons could be raised and sanctioned to decide some innocent person or a hell of a lot of innocent persons have lived long enough and their lives terminated by judicial fiat or decree. Neither you nor I, nor anyone else knows what a persons spirit is saying or desiring. For all we know, those in long term comas are off in their heads having a ball, seeing things they never saw in this life, living in a dream world of their own making and choosing. IP: Logged |

Wow! SalomeLOGAN'S RUN..... ...if I recall - no one was allowed to live beyond 30 were they?......and when those two came upon the "old man" they hardly knew what to think of him..... That was a good movie....

I have no argument with you regarding state interference. I'm for minimal state interference in ALL cases. Fortunately for me, my sister and I came to the same conclusion regarding my mother's coma. However, had we not .... well I'd like to think things wouldn't have gotton ugly like it did with the Schiavo case but who knows? At that ugly point is there another alternative besides state interference? I don't know. As I said, I'm really not sure what to think. All I know is that I've looked the beast in the eye and it sucks. I have sympathy for anyone else who does the same. I've looked abortion square in the eye too and I also have sympathy for anyone facing that soul-wrenching decision.Also, about knowing what a spirit needs and wants ... from your perspective I'm sure I sound nuts but I do feel I knew what my mother needed. We talked about it many times before she died as well. Of course I have no notarized court papers to prove it. I just have my conscience. Good movie
