Vermont Congress candidate calls on Pentagon to arrest Bush, Cheney

Former Army Lieutenant and candidate for Congress in Vermont, Dennis Morrisseau, today called for the arrest of President Bush and Vice President Cheney by the American military - "if necessary" to prevent an unauthorized attack upon the nation of Iran.

The antiwar Vietnam vet is a Republican.....but he has won approval from the State of Vermont to run on the ballot line “Impeach Bush Now,” rather than Democrat or Republican.

"American forces are apparently already active inside Iran, and Naval forces have received orders to deploy to that country," Morrisseau said.

"The President has NO AUTHORITY to attack the nation of Iran whatsoever, in the absence of a full, formal Declaration of War on Iran by the sitting Congress."

Morrisseau said any order for an attack upon Iran or to deploy naval forces to its coastal waters is illegal, and called upon officers of the American military to "First, refuse to obey such an order.

If the president persists and insists on ordering our forces into combat in or over Iran without a formal Declaration of War, then I call upon you, General Pace, as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and upon such other military officers as clearly see their duty in these circumstances to detain both the President and Vice President, until such time as the Congress shall act."

Morrisseau, who was court-martialled for opposition to the Vietnam War in 1968, said he has written to General Pace to ask for the intervention of the military.

"In spite of my opposition to the Vietnam War and the court-martial which we ultimately defeated, I was a good soldier who had the respect of my superior officers throughout the ordeal.

And they had mine!"

Morrisseau said. "There are many many, very, very decent people in the active duty military. I know this," he said " people who love their country and democracy too, and hate war."

Morrisseau wrote that "Iran is no present threat to us or anyone.

Their right to enrich uranium under treaties signed by us for the production of nuclear power is clear: and that is all they have so far done.

An attack upon that nation now by us, acting alone will constitute an illegal war of aggression under international law.

It is illegal under our law as well.

I urge you to so advise the President," Morrisseau wrote to Pace, "and urge that he take no such actions.

In particular, he must not act in the absense of a full, formal, responsible War Declaration by Congress.

That is the Constitutional requirement."

If he and Cheney persist, Morrisseau wrote, "than the country must rely upon you, Sir, and our armed forces generally, to resist all illegal orders by Bush or Cheney, and take the gentlemen into custody if necessary."

Morrissaeu's website notes that the Bush Administration and the Pentagon have issued orders for a major "strike group" of ships, including the nuclear aircraft carrier Eisenhower as well as a cruiser, destroyer, frigate, submarine escort and supply ship, to head for the Persian Gulf, just off Iran's western coast.

This information follows a report in the current issue of Time, that a group of ships capable of mining harbors has received orders to be ready to sail for the Persian Gulf by October 1st.

As Time writes in its cover story "What Would War Look Like?" evidence of the forward deployment of minesweepers and word that the chief of naval operations had asked for a reworking of old plans for mining Iranian harbors "suggest that a much discussed—but until now largely theoretical—prospect has become real:

that the U.S. may be preparing for war with Iran."

According to Lieut. Mike Kafka, a spokesman at the headquarters of the Second Fleet, based in Norfolk, Virginia, the Eisenhower Strike Group, bristling with Tomahawk cruise missiles, has received recent orders to depart the United States in a little over a week.

Other official sources in the public affairs office of the Navy Department at the Pentagon confirm that this powerful armada is scheduled to arrive off the coast of Iran on or around October 21st.

Second Lieutenant Dennis Morrisseau was arrested and court-martialled as an Army 2nd lieutenant for repeatedly speaking out in uniform against the Vietnam War, then refusing shipment to South East Asia. His legal team defeated the court-martial and he was allowed to resign his commission in early 1968.

The court-martial charges called for 5 years in prison at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.

I'm an old war horse and a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Vermont who believes we must impeach Bush and Cheney, and we must remove the neoconservative cabal from power.

Our great nation has suffered a coup.

And there is an immediate need for action and for the piercing of illusions.

We need to step across old political boundaries and ideas.

Who cares about "Democrats" vs. "Republicans"?

The leadership of both parties is thoroughly corrupt.

And that "leadership" exercises its power through control of Congress, not the presidency.

Presidents are figureheads and presidential elections are "bread and circuses."

In our American system, Congress rules because Congress makes the laws and Congress writes the checks that fund all government activity.

Our leaders are very happy to have us believe otherwise.

But no president can govern at all without the full cooperation of Congress.

The 109th Congress and its leaders of both parties are fully complicit in all actions taken so far by the Bush administration, no matter what they say for public consumption.

Their true loyalty is to their fellow senators and representatives and their corporate backers and not to us.

What an idiot. He's calling for a military coup.

Like I said Rainbow, only the losers seem to excite you.

Perhaps you and your loser haven't heard but attempting to overthrow the United States Government is a federal crime.

Lioneye.....I have to be precise, and exact, and very specific (you know like using block letters - and drawing pictures) when I'm trying to 'splain to Pid, because she requires that, in order to get it in her head what i am saying...since she usually messes up what I say very badly...

To jwhop's credit, he usually doesn't "twist" and "miscontrue" what I say, so I would not have answered him in that way......

Gotta admit that you did a pretty good job of "imitating" my style when replying to pid, tho...

You're good...

LET'S PRAY NOT!

**************

Why Bush Will Nuke Iran

By Paul Craig Roberts
9-27-6

The neoconservative Bush administration will attack Iran with tactical nuclear weapons, because it is the only way the neocons believe they can rescue their goal of U.S. (and Israeli) hegemony in the Middle East.

The U.S. has lost the war in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

Generals in both war theaters are stating their need for more troops. But there are no troops to send.

Bush has tried to pawn Afghanistan off on NATO, but Europe does not see any point in sacrificing its blood and money for the sake of American hegemony.

The NATO troops in Afghanistan are experiencing substantial casualties from a revived Taliban, and European governments are not enthralled over providing cannon fodder for U.S. hegemony.

The "coalition of the willing" has evaporated.

Indeed, it never existed.

Bush's "coalition" was assembled with bribes, threats, and intimidation.

Pervez Musharraf, the American puppet ruler of Pakistan, let the cat out of the bag when he told CBS' 60 Minutes on Sept. 24, 2006, that Pakistan had no choice about joining the "coalition."

Brute coercion was applied.

Musharraf said Assistant Secretary of State Richard Armitage told the Pakistani intelligence director that u are with us" or "be prepared to be bombed!

Be prepared to go back to the Stone Age."

Armitage is trying to deny his threat, but Dawn Wire Service, reporting from Islamabad on Sept. 16, 2001, on the pressure Bush was putting on Musharraf to facilitate the U.S. attack on Afghanistan, stated: Pakistan has the option to live in the 21st century or the Stone Age' is roughly how U.S. officials are putting their case."

That Musharraf would volunteer this information on American television is a good indication that Bush has lost the war.

Musharraf can no longer withstand the anger he has created against himself by helping the U.S. slaughter his fellow Muslims in Bush's attempt to exercise U.S. hegemony over the Muslim world.

Bush cannot protect Musharraf from the wrath of Pakistanis, and so Musharraf has explained himself as having cooperated with Bush in order to prevent the U.S. destruction of Pakistan:

"One has to think and take actions in the interest of the nation, and that's what I did."

Nevertheless, he said, he refused Bush's "ludicrous" demand that he arrest Pakistanis who publicly demonstrated against the U.S.:

"If somebody's expressing views, we cannot curb the expression of views."

Bush's defeats in Iraq and Afghanistan and Israel's defeat by Hezbollah in Lebanon have shown that the military firepower of the U.S. and Israeli armies, though effective against massed Arab armies, cannot defeat guerillas and insurgencies.

The U.S. has battled in Iraq longer than it fought against Nazi Germany, and the situation in Iraq is out of control.

The Taliban have regained half of Afghanistan.

The king of Saudi Arabia has told Bush that the ground is shaking under his feet as unrest over the American/Israeli violence against Muslims builds to dangerous levels.

Our Egyptian puppet sits atop 100 million Muslims who do not think that Egypt should be a lackey of U.S. hegemony.

The king of Jordan understands that Israeli policy is to drive every Palestinian into Jordan.
.
Bush is incapable of recognizing his mistake!

He can only escalate.

Plans have long been made to attack Iran.

The problem is that Iran can respond in effective ways to a conventional attack.

Moreover, an American attack on another Muslim country could result in turmoil and rebellion throughout the Middle East.

This is why the neocons have changed U.S. war doctrine to permit a nuclear strike on Iran.

Neocons believe that a nuclear attack on Iran would have intimidating force throughout the Middle East and beyond.

Iran would not dare retaliate, neocons believe, against U.S. ships, U.S. troops in Iraq, or use their missiles against oil facilities in the Middle East.

Neocons have also concluded that a U.S. nuclear strike on Iran would show the entire Muslim world that it is useless to resist America's will.

Neocons say that even the most fanatical terrorists would realize the hopelessness of resisting U.S. hegemony.

The vast multitude of Muslims would realize that they have no recourse but to accept their fate.

Revised U.S. war doctrine concludes that tactical or low-yield nuclear weapons cause relatively little "collateral damage" or civilian deaths, while achieving a powerful intimidating effect on the enemy.

The "fear factor" disheartens the enemy and shortens the conflict.

University of California Professor Jorge Hirsch, an authority on nuclear doctrine, believes that an American nuclear attack on Iran will destroy the Nonproliferation Treaty and send countries in pell-mell pursuit of nuclear weapons.

We will see powerful nuclear alliances, such as Russia/China, form against us.

Japan could be so traumatized by an American nuclear attack on Iran that it would mean the end of Japan's sycophantic relationship to the U.S.

There can be little doubt that the aggressive U.S. use of nukes in pursuit of hegemony would make America a pariah country, despised and distrusted by every other country.

Neocons believe that diplomacy is feeble and useless, but that the unapologetic use of force brings forth cooperation in order to avoid destruction.

Neoconservatives say that America is the new Rome, only more powerful than Rome!

Neoconservatives genuinely believe that no one can withstand the might of the United States and that America can rule by force alone.

Hirsch believes that the U.S. military's opposition to the use of nuclear weapons against Iran has been overcome by the civilian neocon authorities in the Bush administration.

Desperate to retrieve their drive toward hegemony from defeat in Iraq, the neocons are betting on the immense attraction to the American public of force plus success.

It is possible that Bush will be blocked by Europe, Russia, and China, but there is no visible American opposition to Bush legitimizing the use of nuclear weapons at the behest of U.S. hegemony.

It is astounding that such dangerous fanatics have control of the U.S. government and have no organized opposition in American politics.

Dr. Roberts is Chairman of the Institute for Political Economy and Research Fellow at the Independent Institute. He is a former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal, former contributing editor for National Review, and was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration. He is the co-author of The Tyranny of Good Intentions.

Quite distasteful, indeed. Your president is doing what he feels is best for you. At the same time, the opposition may win you sympathy from those who only see one side. It could actually save you. Odd as it may seem.

But, I tell you now - there is no backing out of what has been started, no matter who is in office. You should vote for the man with a plan.

The Democrats are just like the other people = only offering critisism, but no alternate plan.

Thanks for your input lioneye, it's appreciated, since we all have our views....but I respectfully disagree with you.....

I believe just the contrary.....

I believe bush is doing what he feels is best for bush and company, and that group includes not only cheney, rumsfeld, rice, rove, poppy bush, both clintons, ( - you know the bunch!) but goes waaaay beyond.

That is what I believe....

Lioneye, you are witnessing Bush Derangement Syndrome in action. Those afflicted claim:

Bush isn't really President
Bush attacked the WTC and Pentagon
Bush is Satan
Bush is a dictator
Bush stole my civil rights
Bush established a police state
Bush started an illegal war
Bush wants to steal Iraqi oil
Bush attacked Afghanistan over an oil pipeline
Bush..blah, blah, blah
Bush..blah, blah, blah

Bush Derangement Syndrome sufferers can't get over the fact America rejects their leftist domestic social policy and treasonous foreign policy...as well as rejecting the traitors they run for office.

Only someone with moronic values and no sense of Patriotism would say such a thing as requesting the Military to arrest our President. This is laughable. LOL.....

Lioneye you are too much!! LOL..

Rainbow, I have said it to you in the other thread. I will not sink to that level - I proved my point, your insults just fall on deaf ears.
