Is it true that it took a 100 yrs. to decide what emblem to put on your flag?.From what my co-worker told me,it was a toss up between the Union Jack and the flag of France before the Maple Leaf.Is he right?

I should know this cuz Im Canadian right? Im sure I learned something on this in grade 9 Canadian history.

I couldnt find any info on where it took 100 years to decide on a flag...According to the Canadian govt site it took more or less that number of years:
http://www.pch.gc.ca/progs/cpsc-ccsp/sc-cs/df5_e.cfm

The province of Ontario has the Union Jack and St. George cross on its flag, along with some maple leaves:

Im glad I wasnt around when Canadians had to sing God Save the Queen...yuck We did have the picture of Queen Elizabeth in all our classrooms though and we'd have to face her during our national anthem if there wasnt a flag in class...(Jehovah's Witness's are soo ahead of their times)...We no longer keep pictures of the Queen in any of our classrooms nowadays.

Sure Canadians are laid back. Im in Ontario and I guess I could say we're generally polite and easy going. I dont know much about others to make a comparison. But that's what I hear about us from others.

Couldnt imagine myself singing the praises and for the security of a queen...how selfish of a monarchy!

I've only known a few Canadians, but all of them were noticibly more polite and laid back then Americans - a generalization of course. The most kind, polite, gentlemanly person I ever knew was a French Canadian named Lucien Carten.

The Queen thing isn't really personal - I'm not a huge Elizabeth fan, although I liked her father - it's symbolic. The Queen is just a stand in for England. How do Canadians feel about Great Britain and the Monarchy? Not proud to be a part of the Commonweath anymore, eh?
