Do you still bury dead bodies in tombs?.Or did you do away with that tradition many moons ago.

Not an Egyptian but I can tell you this much:

The anciet ritual of mumification has long been abandoned. Right now, majority of Egyptians are Muslims, followed by Christians and then other religions denominations.

So if by tombs, you mean Mausoleums and structures of that sort, sure there are. However, don't expect any more Pyramids Lol!

Yes we do still bury in tombs, or as we say in arabic 'pharoanic graves'. BUT they have been 'Islamicized'. Meaning that we do not mummify, but we wrap the body in the kafan cloth as per Islamic rules, yet we do not dig a hole in the ground put the body there and then cover it. There is a big underground type room for each family. For example in the graveyards you walk down the stairs, leading you to your 'family grave tomb room'. (The men do this, they are always the ones that bury). Then they lift aside rocks that are covering the tomb room, put the new body on a shelf in the room, or on the floor, and put the rocks back inside the hole to cover the entrance of the room again. Ive heard that when they go in they can see the rotted bodies of former family members or whatever. Because all the family members are buried in an underground sort of tomb room, not their own personal slim grave that is dug into the earth.

I donno if that makes sense. That is the way it is done in Cairo and Alex. In the North (toward Libya and also Israel) they do it in the traditional Islamic styles by digging the bodys space putting it in there then covering. As you go south (to Upper Egypt, Luxor and Aswan), the tombs become more Pharoanic in style. And no, we do not use coffin boxes, most Muslims dont (to let the body decompose faster). I believe the Arab Christians bury the same way I described above.
