So now, standing and peeing is a man's way of "triumphing in his masculinity, and by extension, degrading women."

Why do you hate us guys? I am actually trying to defend chivilry for you gals. *Sniff* You hurt my testostrone laden muscle bound heart so much...

Source: http://www.sondrak.com/index.php/weblog/all_we_are_saaaaaying/

quote:
Young women in Sweden, Germany and Australia have a new cause: They want men to sit down while urinating. This demand comes partly from concerns about hygiene—avoiding the splash factor—but, as Jasper Gerard reports in the English magazine The Spectator, “more crucially because a man standing up to urinate is deemed to be triumphing in his masculinity, and by extension, degrading women.” One argument is that if women can’t do it, then men shouldn’t either. Another is that standing upright while relieving oneself is “a nasty macho gesture,” suggestive of male violence.

A feminist group at Stockholm University is campaigning to ban all urinals from campus, and one Swedish elementary school has already removed them. In Australia, an Internet survey shows that 17 percent of those polled think men ought to sit, while 70 percent believe they should be allowed to stand. Some Swedish women are pressuring their men to take a stand, so to speak. Yola, a 25-year-old Swedish trainee psychiatrist, says she dumps boyfriends who insist on standing. “What else can I do?,” said her new boyfriend, Ingvar, who sits.

BTW: Ingvar now has no friends .

LOL LOL Xodian that is so hilarious that I am almost crying after reading it.

Well Im not a die hard feminist, and I think like with everything else both positive and negative things came out of feminism. The reason feminism (it has become a 'bad word' but different feminists, from extremists to moderates, define it differently!), the reason its a necessity is becoz of womens rights abuses across the world, and unfortunately they permeate EVERY society. 98% of the societies in all of history have been patriarchal (including that of the West). Luckily my mom comes from one of the very few existing matriarchal societies (her tribal structure in Kashmir in female dominated) and so u can imagine my father being typical Masri how he must have had a hard time dealing with it LOL. But even there I dont think they force men to sit and pee. Thats quite hilarious

I don't hate men. I don't have anything at all against men and I am the first person to state that there are some things a man can do better than a woman and vice versa.

I am a feminist to the point of wanting to get paid the same wage for the same job, but I don't expect to be treated like a queen and then cry sexual harassment when a man looks at me cross eyed.

I think this whole fight against peeing standing up is just another crusade by man-hating women with penis-envy. With everything else going on in the world, it makes me sick that this has even become an issue.

You don't see female animals getting angry because the males lift up their legs in some animal kingdoms LOL....

Long Live Men Standing Up to Pee!!!!

Oh, this is just stupid. Do these ding-bats really expect people to take them seriously? Heck, I'd stand up to pee if I could. Much more convenient! Poor-sports. I think they've just become annoyed with men who brag about the fact that they can stand up to pee, or women who lament that they can't.

As if....lol....

There would be a lot less of this kind of nonsense...if no one took anything people like this say seriously.

Ridicule is the best medicine for stupidity. Instead, news services pick up this terminal stupidity and report it as straight news.

Now, it's been a long day and I'm tired. Do I have your permission to...sit?

Yeah, true dat. And, teaching boys to lift up the seat before they...errr...do business. Way back in the day, my brother used to have a nasty habit of not lifting the seat before he did. Gross.....

Oh and I missed this...

That's so funny. One of my friends told me awhile ago about how her mom makes her bf take a leak while sitting down...

She told us in the car. It was us two girls, and two other guys. The guys burst into fits of laughter...

One says: OMG, dude, would you let your gf make you p1ss while sitting down?
The other says: F&ck no, that's like... 'Here, let *me* wear the strap-on.'

well , in india , its quite common for a lot of men to sit and pee (especially for the generation of grandfathers )

it is still quite common among muslims , not cos of some religious reasons though .(and my grand fathers came from today's pak , so may be cultural influence )

I'm sure this is an urban legend. At least the last time I tried finding a web site to this international coalition, I came up with nothing. Just rightwingers griping about it.

I did come across the possible origin of the urban legend. Something about some navy bureaucratic idiocy that got exaggerated and then blown up into an "evil feminist" scare, and from there it grew into the international campaign to get rid of urinals.

However, for those of us whoever lived with a man, I'd support toilets in which the toilet seat automatically lowers when no one is aruond. :P

Btw, if you wanna see extreme feminism in the negative light, try googling the SCUM Manifesto. Even if this international conspiracy against urinals turns out to be more than an urban legend, I'm pretty sure you'll find that way more extreme. :P

No one is bashing anything about one's preference to eother stand or sit while peeing Lol! I am just saying that to protest something like this in the name of Feminisim is just utterly ridiculous.

Oh you will have to look towards the Far East for that innovation Madame Lol! Japan has that one solved.

As for the S.C.U.M. Menifesto, After reading just a brief snippit of it, I am quite certain that the Valerie Solanas has definate issues.

For those who want a glimpse of it:

Ummm, I just took the liberty of reading that S.C.U.M. Manifesto thingy you just posted (Well most of it, I got bored about halfway through it ). Can you say...Woman Scorned??? I was like, "WOW!"

I am all for equal rights but that's taking it too far.

There are many possible paths to liberation and/or equality. But I don't think the SCUM Manifesto is so much about that as it is about genocide (or gendercide?). Back in 2000, someone gave this to me and I thought it was a joke and was surprised that she expected me to take it seriously. I've also learned that there are at least a couple of women's studies courses that teach this in a favorable light, or were a few years ago.

I'm pretty "feminist" myself, so I think it means something when I say the SCUM isn't about liberating women. Besides, there are way too many men (and boys) I like, and I'd take it ill if any were to threaten them, no matter the cause (and perhaps especially if it were political or religious in nature).

But then I guess I don't make a good "militant feminist." :-D

Do you?
http://www.spacefem.com/quizzes/militantfeminist/

(But I scored 60%!)
