FORT RILEY, Kan. -- The Defense Department has confirmed the death of a soldier in Iraq one day after his wife gave birth to their first child, a son.

Spc. Joshua Reeves died Saturday when an improvised bomb exploded as the Humvee he was in traveled a street in Baghdad.

His wife, Leslie Reeves, had returned to Hendersonville, Tn., to be with her parents while she had the baby. She gave birth on Friday and named her son Joshua Jackson Reeves. Both mother and child are doing fine, according to friends of the family.

“A tremendous joy came into the family and then all of a sudden we got the sad news,” said family friend Lynn Joyner. “No family would love to have a baby born and then have the father or the mother taken away from them. We don't know why.”

The soldier's parents also were told on Saturday of the death of the oldest of their five children. James and Jean Reeves live in Watkinsville, Georgia, about 60 miles east of Atlanta.

The family says Joshua Reeves was scheduled to come home on two weeks' leave in November.

He was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley, Kan.

Reeves’ father also served in the Army.

Sunday, James Reeves wrote a letter to President Bush. "Please do not let anyone leave Baghdad until the mission is complete,” the letter said. “The lives of our young men will be wasted. Please do not let this be another Vietnam."

Enough from the idiots and morons already.

US military losses in Iraq and Afghanistan have been light...in a historical context of war.

For instance:

The US and it's allies lost more than 50,000 killed in action...in 2 days of fighting taking the beaches of Normandy...in World War 2...for those who are clueless.

There will always be a heart wrenching story to be found and those who have sacrificed and lost family members and friends in war.

The truth is that US military personnel are safer...statistically....in Iraq, as are Iraqi civilians than they would be in Washington DC where the murder rate per 1000 population exceeds that of Iraq...per 1000 of population.

For all the moral and physical cowards, there will always be those to defend you and your families...even if you don't have the "right stuff" to do so yourselves. They believe in their mission as US military personnel and wear their uniforms proudly...as they should.

I realize you haven't a second to waste on research Jay. You're far too busy stuffing your head with nonsense to spare the time. Besides Jay, facts get in the way of preconceived leftist bullshiiit.

"Over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded or went missing during the Battle of Normandy. This figure includes over 209,000 Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 dead amongst the ground forces and a further 16,714 deaths amongst the Allied air forces. Of the Allied casualties, 83,045 were from 21st Army Group (British, Canadian and Polish ground forces), 125,847 from the US ground forces."

Freedom is worth fighting for and if necessary, dying for...Jay. Not for leftists however; leftists raise the white flag of surrender whenever they hear the word Boo. Leftists make the best little slaves in the world.

There are lots of sons without fathers Jay. Most are caused by events other than war. What are you proposing to do about that..Jay?

Jwhop, you are co-relating the Normandy invasion with the Iraqi invasion? Shame on you! What "freedom" does USA stand to lose with regards to war in Iraq?

And OMGJay, I am not sure what language you posted above, but it would be sensible talking in English, so that we all understand, and I would only be guessing those are not decent words either.

You can take war and stuff it where the sun don't shine.

You don't fight for peace. You peace for peace.

Before I sink, into the big sleep
I want to hear, I want to hear
The scream of the butterfly
Come back, baby, back into my arm
Were gettin tired of hangin around
Waitin around with our heads to the ground
I hear a very gentle sound, very near yet very far
Very soft, yeah, very clear, come today, come today

I agree with SM. If you aren't brave enough to write it so the other person understands, what is the point of trying to disguise it?

"Ay callate viejo de mierda." = "Oh shut up you old piece of **** ."

You'll have to excuse Jay. He's one of the small brained primates which sometimes show up here. That would be OK, if he actually knew what the hell he was talking about.

For instance, SMP..small brained primate challenged my facts..then had not a word to say when I posted the facts and the source.

Notice, SBP challenge, then when rebutted they have nothing to say...except insults.

Hey, that's the leftist way so none of the LBP...large brained primates are a bit surprised.

No SM, I'm not mixing apples and oranges with casualty numbers from different wars.

War is war, no matter when or where. There will be killed and wounded in action.

There has been a lot of attention paid to American war casualties in Iraq, including deaths.

My point was that casualties are light for American military personnel in Iraq, very light for 5 years of conflict.

Casualties on the other side however are quite heavy since every time terrorists come out from among the civilian population to engage US forces, they get their sorry as$es shot off...increasingly so.

Let's remember, these terrorists...that includes all the Sunni, Shite and Iranian groups who intentionally target civilians and carry out attacks against them...are actually fighting AGAINST the duly and freely elected government of Iraq. These are not freedom fighters, they're terrorists pure and simple.

The people of Iraq made their choices...for representative government and voted in the face of threats against their lives while doing so. They are due both our respect and our protection while that government works out some of the thorny issues caused by 30 years of despotic murderous rule by the butcher Saddam Hussein.

BTW, Saddam was a great fan of Hitlers..as well as Hitler's ideological twin, Stalin.
