PRETEND TO BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE October 3, 2007 Ann Coulter Not content to wait for my book to come out, Senate Democrats are demanding a censure resolution against Rush Limbaugh. Ah, the memories ...
In my experience, having prominent Democrats censure you on the Senate floor is the equivalent of 50 book signings. Or being put on the cover of The New York Times magazine 20 years ago when people still read The New York Times magazine. They should rename Senate censure resolutions "Harry Reid's Book Club." Liberals are hopping mad because Rush Limbaugh referred to phony soldiers as "phony soldiers." They claim he was accusing all Democrats in the military of being "phony." True, all Democrats in the military are not phony soldiers, but all phony soldiers seem to be Democrats. If we are to believe the self-descriptions of callers to talk radio and the typical soldier interviewed on MSNBC, the military is fairly bristling with Moveon.org types. The reality is quite the opposite. While liberals have managed to worm themselves into every important institution in America, from the public schools to the CIA to charitable foundations, they are shamefully absent from the military. As noted in that great book that came out this week, "If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans": "According to a Military Times survey taken in September 2004, active-duty military personnel preferred President Bush to Kerry by about 73 percent to 18 percent. Sixty percent describe themselves as Republican and less than 10 percent call themselves Democrat (the same 10 percent that MSNBC has on its speed-dial). Even among the veterans, Republicans outnumber Democrats 46 percent to 22 percent." So there aren't a lot of anti-war military types for the media to turn into this month's "It Girl." (If conservatives ran the media, there would be a constant stream of government employees admitting to sloth and incompetence, welfare recipients admitting to being welfare cheats and public schoolteachers who support school vouchers.) Sometimes liberals get desperate and have to concoct Tawana Brawley veterans. In addition to famous fake soldiers promoted by the anti-war crowd, like Jesse MacBeth and "Winter Soldier" Al Hubbard, even liberals with actual military experience are constantly being caught in the middle of some liberal hoax. Al Gore endlessly bragged to the media about his service in Vietnam. "I took my turn regularly on the perimeter in these little firebases out in the boonies. Something would move, we'd fire first and ask questions later," he told Vanity Fair. And then we found out Gore had a personal bodyguard in Vietnam, the most dangerous weapon he carried was a typewriter, and he left after three months. Although to his credit, Gore did not put in for a Purple Heart for the carpal tunnel syndrome he got from all that typing. Speaking of which, John Kerry claimed to be a valiant, Purple Heart-deserving Vietnam veteran, who spent Christmas 1968 in Cambodia -- until he ran for president and more than 280 Swift Boat Veterans called him a liar. We've been waiting more than 20 months for Kerry to make good on his "Meet the Press" pledge to sign form 180, which would allow the military to release his records. Then there was Bill Burkett, who gave CBS the phony National Guard documents; Scott Thomas Beauchamp, The New Republic's fantasist anti-war "Baghdad Diarist"; and Max Cleland, whose injuries were repeatedly and falsely described as a result of enemy fire. Liberals will even turn a war hero like Pat Tillman into an anti-war cause celebre posthumously -- so he can't disagree. Tillman died in a friendly fire incident that occurred -- unlike Max Cleland's accident -- during actual combat with the enemy. Because they are screaming, hysterical women, liberals treat friendly fire like a drunk driving accident. But friendly fire has been a part of war from time immemorial. Liberals have an insane, litigious view of the military: There's been an accident in warfare, let's sue! It's as mad as the line from "Dr. Strangelove": "Gentlemen! No fighting in the War Room!" Golly jeepers, accidents can't happen in a war! Contrary to the insinuations of his family, we don't know what Pat Tillman would say about the war he volunteered for, but we do know that he was a patriot until death. And we know what other patriots have said about friendly fire during a war. In his book "Faith of My Fathers," John McCain describes how demoralized American prisoners of war in Vietnam were when they didn't hear any bombing for years. Finally, after a long bombing halt, Nixon renewed aerial bombing of North Vietnam in December 1972. Our bombers couldn't know with precision where the enemy was holding (and torturing) our troops. McCain and the rest of those POWs could easily have been hit and killed by an American bomb. But the POWs weren't denouncing the U.S. military for risking their lives with "friendly fire." They weren't crying Mommy, investigate this! Get me a trial lawyer! If their camp had been hit by American bombs, it would have been as the POWs were shouting: "God bless President Nixon!" That's from their own mouths; that's what's in their hearts. Friendly fire -- to a nation that hasn't lost its wits -- is part of waging war. If Democrats don't want to hear about "phony soldiers," maybe they should stop trying to edify us with these bathos-laden hoaxes. http://www.anncoulter.com/cgi-local/welcome.cgi IP: Logged |

Well, who can forget all the phony soldiers leftists have trotted out to rip American Military personnel? Indeed, who can forget the phony Winter Soldiers of the John Traitor Kerry Marxist league who testified to personally witnessing war crimes committed by US forces in Vietnam? Problem...those who testified were either never in the US military at all...or never stationed in Vietnam. A phony baloney hoax by the traitor John Kerry. Now, the radical Marxist left is trotting out another group of phony soldiers to rip US military personnel with lying charges. The current crop of phonies either never served...were kicked out before they even completed training..Basic Training, in the US or have written phony accounts of war crimes which never happened and claimed they personally wittnessed it all. Time and investigation proved they are lying through their teeth. But that's the radical Marxist left...lying through their teeth is their best thing. In fact, lying through their teeth is their ONLY thing.

Facts and the truth just never serve the interests of loony leftists...in Congress or out.Leftist Senators and House Members are taking a well deserved drubbing for jumping on Limbaugh's mention of "phony soldiers" during one of his broadcasts. These leftist morons...in the Congress and at "Media Matters"...allege Limbaugh was talking about ALL present and former military personnel who oppose the war in Iraq. Not so and now, these leftist morons are getting their butts kicked...with facts and the truth. Feds Probe So-called Phony Soldier Cases Friday, October 5, 2007 8:54 AM Written by Fred Lucas, CNSNews.com Staff Writer The federal government is currently conducting more than 60 "stolen valor" investigations of individuals suspected of making false claims about their military records, according to the Department of Veteran's Affairs, and about 30 people nationwide have been arrested in the past year for crimes related to falsifying a military record. Stolen valor typically occurs when someone falsifies documents or produces medals and awards from the military they didn't earn in order to qualify for veterans benefits.
Jeffrey Sullivan, the U.S. attorney in the Western District of Washington, prosecuted Jesse Macbeth of Tacoma, Wash., in the past year as well as five others who falsely claimed heroic military service.
Macbeth, who was sentenced to five months in prison last month, is the person Rush Limbaugh cited on his radio program as an example of a "phony soldier."
For some, federal officials said, the motive for stolen valor is psychological, as a former soldier yearns to be a hero. But for most, the motive is financial, a means of getting certain federal benefits and medical care that come with being a veteran.
"In the six cases we've done, it has resulted in an estimated $1.4 million loss for the Veterans Administration," Sullivan told Cybercast News Service. "There are a significant amount of scam artists and phonies. They take money that legitimate vets deserve."
Sullivan said this fraud "does truly hurt the men and women of the armed forces who legitimately put their lives on the line."
Macbeth, 23, gained the most attention of those Sullivan has prosecuted, in part because he became a hero of the anti-Iraq war movement. He claimed to have witnessed his fellow American soldiers commit atrocities in Iraq, when in fact he was never there.
He was in the U.S. Army for only 44 days in 2003, and was never stationed outside of Fort Benning, Ga. Macbeth also claimed that he held a Purple Heart, served for three years, and was discharged for having post traumatic stress syndrome - all false. He spoke at an anti-war rally and was the subject of an anti-war documentary.
Macbeth's name became the center of controversy this week after Limbaugh cited him as an example of a "phony soldier." Many Democrats in Congress quickly denounced Limbaugh, claiming he was using the phrase to label all American veterans opposed to the war in Iraq.
The length of sentencing for "stolen valor" can vary based on a number of factors, Sullivan told Cybercast News Service.
For example, Larry Lewis Porter, 52, of Seattle, cost the government $134,000, according to Sullivan's office. Porter was sentenced last April to 37 months in prison for fraudulently obtaining disability benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA) by fabricating post-traumatic stress syndrome from his experience in the U.S. Navy - an experience that never happened
However, Reggie Buddle, 60, of Puyallup, Wash., was sentenced to 500 hours of community service, because he falsely posed as a decorated U.S. Marine chaplain and presided over Marine weddings, funerals and baptisms.
Most offenders served in the U.S. military but embellished their tales, said Jim O'Neill, assistant inspector general for investigations at the VA.
"Most served, some served honorably, but just falsified their combat experience or something that never occurred to get benefits," he told Cybercast News Service. "They only make up 5 percent of our case load of investigations, but we take them very seriously."
Both O'Neill and Sullivan said that veterans groups, such as Veterans of Foreign Wars, have been a major help, as it's usually other veterans who notice that a war story doesn't add up, and they inform authorities.
"Some people do this to provide for something missing in their life," Sullivan said. "I don't know all the psychological aspects of it. But for some, they did good, but that wasn't enough. They want to be a hero."

The lengths some people will go to. And another reason aid to the needy needs to be more careful watched. It's really kind of sad that people get duped so often. Against war and/or military people will listen to supposed war veterans and/or military members who denounce this war and/or the military and use them as support for their agenda when, in reality, almost all, if not all, these people they're listening to just made it up. But nobody bothers to question or see if they're telling the truth? He's anti-war so he must be honest, right? And here I thought the anti-war movement had a hold on the Truth. Everything with a grain of salt ... or perhaps a heaping tbsp of salt, lol.IP: Logged |

The only military personnel...or even phony military personnel the press ever interviews are those opposed to the War..this war or any other. Those in the military who serve America proudly, who are doing the job, day in and day out..whether on the battlefield or not are simply silenced by the press...i.e., not interviewed by the press for their opinion. Instead, leftist morons like John "Surrender Now" Murtha proclaimed "they've lost the war"...AND "They're cold blooded murderers of innocent Iraqi civilians". Leftist twit and traitor John Kerry says US military personnel are terrorizing women and children in Iraq....US soldiers are terrorists. Not to mention, this traitor also says US military personnel are not very smart and didn't put forth much effort towards self improvment...and that's why they wound up in a military uniform in Iraq. Dick "Dustbin" Durbin says US military personnel are like the gulag guards of the old Soviet Union, like Hitler's Nazi SS and like the murderous henchmen of the communist tyrant Pol Pot. "Hairy" Reid, aka "Dirty Hairy" says US military personnel have lost the war...the war is lost. Now, these same brain dead leftist morons are screeching, screaming and shrieking about how much they support our military. In the words of Commander Corruption's wife, Hillary...."must suspend disbelief"...one must suspend disbelief to believe a word leftist morons in the Congress of the United States have to say..if they say anything about supporting our troops. Moronic leftist dem-o-scat Senators have something all over their faces today. The letter Hairy Reid sent to the syndicator of the Rush Limbaugh program was auctioned on E-Bay for more than $2,000,000. The proceeds from the acution will be used for college tuition for children of those in the military killed in combat and children of slain law enforcement officers. This incident was one of the only times in recent memory where a private citizen was attacked on the floor of one of the houses of Congress...and a letter sent to what could be considered his employer...to shut him up. Liberal like to talk, debate and deliberate. Leftists just attempt to shut everyone else the hell up who disagrees with them...same as here on this forum. There is a list of leftists, progressives, socialists, communists and other collectivists who signed Hairy Reids piece of crap...to shut Rush Limbaugh up. They even attempted to use a lie to get the job done. Among those is "progressive" Hillary Clinton, the most corrupt first lady ever in the White House. http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Harry-Reid-Rush-Limbaugh-Sme ar-Letter_W0QQitemZ260170172469QQcategoryZ4105QQcmdZViewItem IP: Logged | |
