Or...in the case of Communist Chinese thug dictators they just find a handy military tank to run over protesters.

Of course, we all know it's America that's the police state...don't we! Just ask any leftist and they'll set you straight.

Thugs Open Fire on Venezuelan Student Protestors
Rick Moran

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on students returning from a demonstration in Caracas injuring 8 with "one by gunfire" according to officials:

Photographers for The Associated Press saw at least four gunmen -- their faces covered by ski masks or T-shirts -- firing handguns at the anti-Chavez crowd.

Terrified students ran through the campus as ambulances arrived. National Guard troops gathered outside the Central University of Venezuela, the nation's largest and a center for opposition to Chavez's government. Venezuelan law bars state security forces from entering the campus, but Luis Acuna, the minister of higher education, said they could be called in if the university requests them.

Antonio Rivero, director of Venezuela's Civil Defense agency, told local Union Radio that at least eight people were injured, including one by gunfire, and that no one had been killed. Earlier, Rivero said he had been informed that one person had died in the violence.

The violence broke out after anti-Chavez demonstrators -- led by university students -- marched peacefully to the Supreme Court to protest constitutional changes that Venezuelans will consider in a December referendum. The amendments would abolish presidential term limits, give the president control over the Central Bank and let him create new provinces governed by handpicked officials.

There is no doubt that Hugo Chavez is popular among the legions of desperately poor Venezuelans who, like most of the poor in Latin America, have suffered from the effects of crony capitalism and corrupt kleptocratic governments.

And it is also true that the opposition in Venezuela is extremely fragmented and disorganized; too many parties, too little cooperation.

But Chavez's drive to a socialist dictatorship - fueled by oil money and a cult of personality - will most likely not improve the lot of the poor while enriching Chavez cronies and impoverishing the middle class. This is why 80,000 people turned out for a mid week demonstration against these extraconstitutional measures.

But unless the opposition can unite before the referendum in December that will make these changes legal, it seems clear that freedom in Venezuela will disappear, awaiting an awakening by the people that Hugo Chavez will end up ruining their country.

I don't know how people can expound upon the supposed virtues of these "leaders" but completely gloss over the very real horrors their people are suffering. So many people immigrate (or try to immigrate) from Central and South America, many risking illegalities and their very lives, why? Because it's so much better back home?

It's a sad fact of history that sometimes very disadvantaged people will cling to the ideas and theories espoused by leaders that pretend to have their best interests at heart and then only further their own agenda while increasing or at least not doing anything positive about the sufferings of those same people. If America does something to get involved in foreign countries with these problems, we're just as bad or worse than the dictators ... especially if any of our own may sacrifice their lives in the process. And if we don't, we're selfish, greedy resource mongers who don't care about the rest of the world.

I really hope that Chavez doesn't succeed in his ambitions but I'm afraid that the people don't have the means to stop him.

How many times on this forum have we seen the leftist view expressed that America is..or is becoming a fascist police state?

Yet, when pressed for specifics, those who expressed that opinion have no place to go..except to the brain dead who rely on rumor, gossip, innuendo, supposition and outright lies to write an article. Not one iota of proof is offerred in these articles nor is any specific case cited. Leftists just know and don't need no stinkin proof.

On the other hand, how many of the leftists here have ever expressed the slightist disapproval of communist/socialist dictatorships and thug dictators who routinely suppress, oppress, kill, starve, torture, rape, mutilate and otherwise hold their citizens in prison as political prisoners? No mention of civil rights ever escapes to their keyboards regarding those citizens under the rule of communist/socialist thug dictators. Good thing because in those nations under communist/socialist thug rule, there are no civil liberties whatsoever.

There was universal horror among leftists that the US was going to take Saddam Hussein down. Saddam Hussein was a murderous socialist/communist/Stalinist thug who committed all the afore mentioned but Saddam was one of them and therefore no criticism was permitted.

In the case of Hugo Chavez, he's talking about naming himself "President for life".

He's a communist thug but he's a thug idolized by the radical left as is Castro.

In fact, anyone who is at odds with the United States is a defacto hero of the radical left...that's communists/socialists/Leninists/Stalinists/
Maoists and any other variety of thug loosely identified as collectivists.

About those murderous thugs, you will hear no words of disapproval from the radical left...which is the base of the democrat party. You will however hear approval of the communist thug Castro's healthcare system...a model for the world says the brain dead leftist Michael Moore.

It's America which is the police state. It's America which is the problem in the world and it's America which is the enemy of leftists everywhere.

Leftists who make those claims never seem to get around to explaining why...if America is a police state...then why hasn't the American police state government they protest with every breath...why hasn't the government arrested them and planted their rear ends in a prison cell...as any of their favored thug dictators would have done long ago...or simply put a bullet in their heads.
