Yeah, great idea. Let's wreck the US economy, throw millions of people out of work...and onto the street to fight a problem which exists only in the minds..what am I saying..minds?..I should say...exists only in the empty heads of brain dead leftist twits.

Bill: "We Just Have to Slow Down Our Economy" to Fight Global Warming
January 31, 2008 9:26 AM

Former President Bill Clinton was in Denver, Colorado, stumping for his wife yesterday.

In a long, and interesting speech, he characterized what the U.S. and other industrialized nations need to do to combat global warming this way: "We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren."

At a time that the nation is worried about a recession is that really the characterization his wife would want him making? "Slow down our economy"?

I don't really think there's much debate that, at least initially, a full commitment to reduce greenhouse gases would slow down the economy….So was this a moment of candor?

He went on to say that his the U.S. -- and those countries that have committed to reducing greenhouse gases -- could ultimately increase jobs and raise wages with a good energy plan..

So there was something of a contradiction there.

Or perhaps he mis-spoke.

Or perhaps this characterization was a description of what would happen if there isn't a worldwide effort…I'm not quite certain.

You can watch that one clip HERE or you can watch the whole speech at the website of ABC News' great Denver affiliate KMGH by clicking HERE.

It's worth watching -- he also pushed back against a 9/11 conspiracy theorist heckling him.

"Everybody knows that global warming is real," Mr. Clinton said, giving a shout-out to Al Gore's Nobel Peace Prize, "but we cannot solve it alone."

"And maybe America, and Europe, and Japan, and Canada -- the rich counties -- would say, 'OK, we just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren.' We could do that.

"But if we did that, you know as well as I do, China and India and Indonesia and Vietnam and Mexico and Brazil and the Ukraine, and all the other countries will never agree to stay poor to save the planet for our grandchildren. The only way we can do this is if we get back in the world's fight against global warming and prove it is good economics that we will create more jobs to build a sustainable economy that saves the planet for our children and grandchildren. It is the only way it will work.

"And guess what? The only places in the world today in rich countries where you have rising wages and declining inequality are places that have generated more jobs than rich countries because they made a commitment we didn't. They got serious about a clean, efficient, green, independent energy future… If you want that in America, if you want the millions of jobs that will come from it, if you would like to see a new energy trust fund to finance solar energy and wind energy and biomass and responsible bio-fuels and electric hybrid plug-in vehicles that will soon get 100 miles a gallon, if you want every facility in this country to be made maximally energy efficient that will create millions and millions and millions of jobs, vote for her. She'll give it to you. She's got the right energy plan."

In other Bubba News, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, told the spectacular Kate Snow yesterday that this is her campaign, not Bill's, and told Nightline anchor Cynthia McFadden last night that she can control him.

(Which begs the question -- does she want to slow down the economy?)

UPDATE: Not so difficult to predict -- the RNC just issued a statement in response to the former President's comment.

“Senator Clinton’s campaign now says we must ‘slow down the economy’ to stop global warming," said Alex Conant, RNC Spokesman. "Clinton needs to come back to Earth. Her ‘tax-it, spend-it, regulate-it’ attitude would really bring the economy crashing down. No amount of special effects will hide Clinton’s liberal record.”

Sen. Clinton's campaign, meanwhile, has a new TV ad (watch it HERE) http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4222206 that calls her "the person you can depend on to fix the economy and protect our future."

I honestly think Bill Clinton is trying to tank Hilary's chances of becoming the nominee. He has really gone off the deep end and although I can't stand him, he was a charasmatic speaker (in a Kool Aid kind of way).

Deep down I believe he still hates his wife with a passion and is demonstrating his resentment of her witchy hold on him by upstaging her at every turn.

jwhop.... are you still good on your popcorn supply? I had to replenish with rice cakes

I was thinking that very thing, Pid. I also think he may be sabotaging her. I don't know that I'd ascribe those reasons per se, but I definitely agree that he's doing it intentionally even if it's subconscious.

I agree he`s sabotaging her but is it intentionally OR subconsciously? Wouldn`t doing both be an oxymoron?

Either way, he`s acting like a moron & Hillary needs to muzzle the old boy

I guess you're right. I was thinking of a subconscious intention, but I can see what you're saying.

Hmm.. to me it may have started out subconsciously, but once he was made aware that his speeches and behaviour was affecting her in the polls (and in the results) he should have reigned it in. Instead, he's stepped it up. Now Hillary is making statements that she can "control" him, but again, it doesn't seem to be working.

It is disturbing to me, although I can't stand what Hillary stands for, watching the events play out like this brings a knot to my stomach.

Plenty of popcorn stashed for the semi final and main event Pid.

Whatever is going on in the Clinton campaign, I think it's planned...that Commander Corruption be the attacker...and Hillary can sit back and attempt to stay above the negatives of the campaign.

This gaffe by Bill really steps on Hillary's economic message.

Perhaps he just can't stand not being the center of attention.

I think you have a point there jwhop. I don't think Bill can relinquish the throne (in his mind). He is an unevolved Leo if there ever was one. I don't imagine he wants to take second seat to her should she make it to become the President.

I'm not quite sure what is up with the Dems this go round. It seems like they want to lose by putting up someone that either needs hubby to stand up for her (while she does a great job of tanking herself) or someone that doesn't respect this Country enough to pledge his alligiance to our Flag and Country.

If either of them were to win, it would be a definite case for voter fraud. Neither Obama or Clinton really has a chance in this race.

Yeah Pid, Commander Corruption is a Leo. The good news is that I've started a petition to have him drummed out of the Leo Club. I think we'll make him a Virgo.

Almost 50% said they would not vote for Hillary under any circumstances. Her negatives are just sky high. Sometimes name recognition can work...in reverse.
