Hiya guys, just hoping that one of you might come across this thread and kinda provide an answer to this question Lol!Bear, hopefully its safe for me to assume that you have had a fair amount of contact with the Seahawk helicopters during your training and I just wanted to ask that if you have come across one in service (not for testing purposes but direct service) that has a mounted GAU-16 turrent on it? Just curious because of this picture here: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/images/SH-60-F_GAU16.jpg It looks like a test unit to me but I just couldn't confirm that. Bear will have to answer that. I've got no clue as to all of his experience and with what weapons or aviation equipment (to include planes or helicopters) I only know what he's jumped out of but other than that... he'll answer your question IP: Logged |

Xodian,Almost all **-60* have some type of armament on them. The GAU-16 was initially tested in 2000. They are now past it but other than that I cant say much more than that. I have seen .50 cal machine guns connected to the helicopters but most of what I have done with helicopters is get rides in them or rappel out of them. Bear IP: Logged |

Thanks a million guys.Well the SH-60F has a primary combat role of an anti-submarine chopper so it was kinda odd seeing one with a GAU-16 attached to it since it doesn't makes any sense having one on an sonar or a torpedo launching unit. I would guess its for special forces deployment as you said Bear. Thanks again guys. IP: Logged |
