"Her fear is justified. Iraq's second-largest city, Basra, is a stronghold of conservative Shia groups. As many as 133 women were killed in Basra last year -- 79 for violation of "Islamic teachings" and 47 for so-called honor killings, according to IRIN, the news branch of the U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs."This is part of a story on CNN.com today, 2/8/08. I can't say we should pull out of Iraq. Just our presence alone has shed light on so many autrocities that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. They kill women over there for the wrong color headscarf????????????? Why? IP: Logged |

I don't know about that but killing women for speaking to the wrong man definitely is something that occurs. Its not as bad as Afghanistan or Pakistan (especially northern) but Iraq has its share. Nothing to do with religion but more of a preservation of old tribal ways IP: Logged |

I don't believe continuing a war to study anothers culture is a valid enough reason to hang out As atrocious as these events may seem to someone here in the United States, it does not give us right to forcefully try to change other countries. I imagine from the view point in another country looking at our practices, beliefs, and laws we actually seem barbaric as well if not absolutely sickening. Small example: We raise and fatten up sweet baby cows in order to slaughter them, package them, and distribute them as food In some other countries cows are considered sacred, perhaps even worshipped. ------------------ Sendin' love your way, "your friend in spirit" IP: Logged |

Perhaps thats why fast food ordering service cannot be outsourced to India yet Islam forbids atrocities against women also. These bright bulbs have a hard time interpreting scriptures. I am thank ful for the forefathers of USA for separating state and church. I mean by seperating you are giving them more freedom, but atleast they don't kill so its nice to seperate.
That is the message of America's freedom. The constitution written in Philadelphia begins with "We the people" . It is about people participating and making a collective decision Instead of spreading the gospel, the American christian missionaries must spread democracy priciples. Every country already has a local God IP: Logged |

I like to look at this way. You cannot change what you cannot see. If the light is turned on and people can see things then there may be hope that people will change things.IP: Logged |
